Title: Frame material ????
Post by: atcsteve on April 17, 2009, 02:21:27 PM: Ok,so we were going to trade the mini off for a 2009 joyner 800,but the guy who looked at mine said he wasnt sure if it was chromoly(?) or mild steel.He was going to put a big 1000cc motor in it for the dunes.He said that if it was mild steel that it would twist and break right away?????I have a honda 650 motor in it and beat it up and it holds up fine.Is there any truth to his theory?If so,will mine hold up for a long time,or is it just a matter of time before it breaks?Also how can you tell what was used?Thanks in advance.

guy doesn't know what the hell he's talking about, more than likely it's mild and that's fine.

Post by: fabr on April 17, 2009, 02:54:53 PM: You CAN build a chassis that will flex if built with cromo but that is drag race related. Think long sleek rear engine dragsters. Personally I know of no modern builders that use cromo so they can design in chassis flex for an offroad car..
