The Project
« on: June 23, 2011, 07:04:13 PM »
So, it has been a long summer.  Figured I needed a hobby.  Too much work, and finally slowing down a bit.  Decided that I would embark on a new project.

Played a little of this:

with some of these:

walked away with a few of these

that was converted to this:

Still have to do some more on the collecting side.  Might spend tonight rolling coins.......

Have started the process of collecting parts for a new project.    Once the first batch gets here I will post some pictures up.  No, not a new car build.

Kind of makes you wonder what it is no?

No?????? LOL!!!!!

Nope - that is too ugly.  Besides, I dot know that many folks, and even if I did I would not like enough of them to take for a ride.

Spent the night rolling coins.   Too many coins.

Good woman helps the process.

Still have some nickels to finish up with but should be just about $400.00 or so by the time it is all said and done.   Woot!  Back to the interwebs tomorrow to order some more stuff.

Serious - that little game is spendy.   But, no need for another 70 - I have two of them now.  One is for the girl.

Well, ordered up another big part.  The cards were kind.

Should be a few weeks.

So, what is it you ask?  Well, not another 70 - have that.  So this time we are going for a 140 or a 150 in a 70 custom frame.

Frame is made by an outfit called R55 Motorsports.  These guys do it cause they love the 70's.  They also run a company that builds shocks called PEP Suspension.  So, it will come to me with the forks and shock set for my weight (Lard ass) and style (Slow) http://r55motorsports.com/index.html

Patterned after an old bike called a "A+."   There was also another maker back in the day, called PK racing.  I found an old PK bike that I was going to redo, but figured that was way more than I wanted to jack with.  There is this bike, that I ordered, and there is also a group working on a "B+" that will start with a CRF70 frame.

Quote
6" Travel Front Forks with Adjustable Dampening Includes:
R 55 Triple Clamps
Foot Pegs
R55 Frame
R55 Sub-Frame
R55 Swing Arm
Custom P.E.P. Rear Coil-Over Dual Rate Shock (factory valved and sprung for rider's weight)
7" of travel at the rear wheel
Rear Disc Brake

This frame kit is a replacement part for a
Honda ATC 70 year models 1978-85
Whats the appeal?  Heck if I know, I just like em and figured it would be fun to have a little project.  I do know that had somebody told me I would spend this much money for 6" and 7" of travel I would have said not a chance in hell...... Things change.

Should have the frame in a few weeks.  Till then, I need to clean the garage, score some more coin for the motor, and keep gathering assorted parts.  The only big item left is the motor.  About $400 - $500 depending on which one I go with.  Heck, I already have the fuel tank, etc at the body shop getting redone and purdied all up.

Dang Yammi

Kind of stretched out 70.  Cool as hell.  Glad you got some time finally to work on the toy's.

If I believe I cannot do something it makes me incapable of doing it. But when I believe that I can, then I acquire the ability to do it , even if I didn't have it at the beginning.

Nice!!!

One thing ya gotta love about them pit motors is their simplicity..  Not a whole lot to hook up :D

I built a pitbike from scratch myself..  Started with the purchase of a chinese pitbike, then upgraded so much I built a REAL pitbike and put the china junk back together.  Keep an eye out and you can find those 140's cheap..  Karters use them as well as pitbikes.  I paid $300 for my OGM 140 w/ spare carb and parts.  Original owner said it ran great but he was full of crap.  The carbs they had would not work without flooding it.  $100 later and the right carb was on and she rips..

Oh yeah, thats the other fun thing.  Its WAY cheaper to build these little ones :)

Looks nice though, I like the modern frame...

Ordered the motor.  Also working on decals.  Think the only thing left will be a fender set and exhaust.  Yes, I know - seems weird to order decals, but want them prior to powder coat of the frame....

They should be a brighter, etc than the mock up.

Well poop. The guy with the 150 is all out of stock. He has 140's and 160's.

So, the 160 has different valve angles on the exhaust - that can be overcome, and then the carb is a bit different. I liked the 150 for the case style, the 160 has the cases like the 150. But, I am thinking just to keep it simple it will be the 140. Save a little bit of money. Oh well, there goes 10ccs. I can get the cases on the 140 powder coated and it will solve some of my angst. The original plan was a 140 to begin with.

BTW, any body have any ideas where to get a regulator / rectifier?
