Glad to see it finally posted up lance ;) ;) ;)
Intrested to see what people chime in about. Should have waited until you have the plans finished cause no everyone will be asking. drowning

you have put a lot of time and effort into those plans!!! looks like nice work!!
is the front track width wider than the rear?
-
...
-
ya know I have seen doug down at ls twice and never noticed the front was wider than the rear!! but thought it looked that way on your prints, nice job btw!
-
...
-
Lance. Does this mean I dont have to keep it a secret anymore? ;)
-
Very nice! Lots of work went into that. Prepare for many people wanting plans. ;D

That's for sure! 8) 8) 8)

Very nice work! I wish I had the cad skills. I have a question:
I have broken my back 2 times on dirtbikes so when laying out my buggy, current and past, I reclined the seats to help prevent further damage to my back. I don't try to jump my buggy at least no more than say clearing a ridge. I don't go out looking for a huge jump. It looks like most seats in these buggy's have the seats mounted pretty much flat?

Just bring dollars.............. ;D actually I wouldn't release any kind of plan till the prototype is tested and proven. Anything less would just not be right. When the plans are available they will extremely high quality cad drawings. Lets just say NASA quality drawings ;D
-
I agree on the point of no rules. Just curious if you were goin to mount them flat or with a little recline. It looks like they will be flat.
Fantastic looking work! Tremendous progress.

I'm confused?
Doesnt someone own the rights to the original baracuda?
You took thier design and made it your design but with an extra seat.
Can you sell plans?
Dont get me wrong,I'm not a fan of the original baracuda, but yours is cool as hell!
-
Very nice design! Looks friggin SWEET!

And there it is Lance.... You big copy cat!!! Were we not just talking about that? And by the way. Lasers will be orderd this week, Pedals going out Monday!

Good points Lance. It looks great and will be a good build thread. I like to see how others go about building a buggy and pick up tips along the way.
-
Very good.
Wasnt bashing or trying to start anything.
-
Looks Awesome Lance! I wish the plans were available when I started my build cause my daughter has been inquiring about where her seat is. You'll probably be done with rev 2 before I complete mine! LOL
What are you going to call it?
-
...
-
I would place myself in the list of folks that would be the first to defend intellectual property rights. I have the lawyer bills to prove it.
In my mind this more than qualifies as a suitable deviation from the plans to be considered original. Heck, the biggest problem I have is the use of the name "barracuda." Even that is somewhat clever in "barra2uda."
Lots of original thought went into the design. Congrats.

I agree!
How about calling it a Lancer. ;D I have a Lancer sailboat so no original thought went into that. ;)
-
Its been the Barra2uda through the whole design process and it will always be referd to as a Barra2uda. After what Lance? 4-5 years ago Edge said that the 2 seat Cuda would be released in plans in one year. Edge does build and sell a 2 seat Barracuda, same crap front end too with NO changes except brakes. Looks nothing like what Lance has come up with. I do like Lancer though... LMAO
-
...
-
...
-
My worries too... Glad to see it comming together. Only one problem... Your going to fast. I cant even make parts fast enough to keep up.
-
...
-
;)
-
Nice progress!
Memorial day test run? ;D
-
Is there going to be any interference from the passengers feet with the pedals? Or is there plenty of room?
-
Just band your feet at childhood like those little chinese girls to keep from growing, rofl. If that steering shaft is in the center, I'l say theres room for 4 feet.
My last rail was only 4 ft elbow to elbow, 3 ft wide at pedal area. It should be fun, like riding a roller coaster, you can bounce off ea other. It will be in powder by Memorial Day if Doug can keep up. LMAO
-
...
-
COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Those parts look sweet! Sam must be getting pretty excited!
-
...
-
Rear lasers showed up today Lance!!! Steering looks like it will work!!! Good to see. Another plus is the ability to change steering ratio with simple sprocket swap...
Lance... Is there enough room for 2 sets of feet??
-
Where is the pic of the finished nut housing? Man that machine is dirty in that other pic, Might need to remove it. Sure is embarassing!!!

I never got a picture of the finished part??????
-
...
-
Oh yeah thats right. Those shipped out yesterday.... Must have been that headache I had this morning that made me forget that!
-
...
-
And I think you'll need a second steering wheel too. Chain steering wasn't your first choice, I'm sure you'll give it a good test.
-
I've done similar a long time ago. You'll not have any trouble but for a bit of slop that will develop. I'd add a tensioner while you can easily do so.
-
...
-
I should have known you would think of it.
-
...
-
Wow, looks like quality work. Keep the pics comming!
-
Looks awesome! ee: ee: ee:

Ya might want to try on scrap first. Couple tips-aw hell, read the recent topic on tigging 4130. Applies equally to mild steel. Follow those guidelines and you're well on your way to great results.
-
...
-
Very nice, extremely professional. At least 2 thumbs up.
-
...
-
Seen a car at a car show we were in last month that had that same color Tangerine Orange Pearl. Look unreal and gorgeous.
-
That paint color looks as if, it will really POP in the sunlight. ;D ;D ;D
-
looking good. you going to mig weld the rear housing or tig?
-
Great color.
-

-
The third pic. Your pooch is smiling. LMAO

Looks damn nice! ee: ee: ee:

-
SHARP!
-
Dang Lance. Not even done yet and you got it on it's lid. rofl
-
Looks great! Seems to be going together real nice and quick.
-
Keep that buggy porn coming. 8) 8) 8)

-
I best get started.... Looks good Lance!
-
SWEET!!! ;D ;D ;D
-
...
-
Looks real nece Lance. You ever sleep? You did a supper job on the jeep.
-
Loving all of it but that upper front arm. Everything ,and I mean everything, about the build is first rate but I gotta say I really don't like that arm. Looks like trouble brewing to me. Sorry.
-
Well, crap. I have to add that ,IMO,that's a lot of camber change also. Are you sure about that? Just looking for insight as to why I guess.
-
I just checked. My CAD for the new car shows a 2 degree camber change over 26" front travel.
BTW,keep up the great work! I'm loving it!
-
...
-

It's part of the original geometry. Picture the buggy turning hard and compressing that side of the suspension. Exactly what you want to happen is what you see. The tire stays perpendicular to the surface of the "road". The design works amazing. I've never felt the single seater even begin to lean or tip with even the most extreme driver input at speed.
-
Ummm,OK and OK. I agree with the light loading of the upper arms but ............................time will tell if my concerns are valid when it takes to the desert.
-
...
-
Very nice work! Looks great. Panels really look set it off.
-
^^^^^^+1+1+1+1!!!!!!
-
Damn Lance, I gotta say I wish I had your talent! Question, should I box in my rear lower a-arms ( original) and hope for the best?
The engine jig is genius. How many you planning to build?
-
...
-
Box them, no question. There's some pictures towards the end of Samantha's build thread of what I did on the old style arms. After that there haven't been any problems. Or you could just chuck those old style ones and use the new design.
As soon as this one makes it to the desert I will be starting serial number two. How many am I planning on building....All I can say is more.
Yeah right, this shoestring budget and crackerjack toolbox doesn't come with chuck em' and start over options. Especially after I paid Doug for all my a-arms. I plan to get my money's worth and replace/rebuild as necessary.
I sure wish I had your budget moneybags! rofl
-
Keep in mind where Lance rides... very punishing terrain!!! Better to over build them than wreck them and have to start over. I have only damaged A-arms in situations where contact with nature have been present ;D
-
I've done a lot of dirt biking in SoCal and it isn't much different than the high deserts of New Mexico where I'll be playing. If nothing else it may be rougher here.
Something tells me I'll be building a-arms at some point.
-
...
-
...
-
I've been to New Mexico also. You'll need arms it's just a matter of time. You could drive like an old lady and make them last but what fun is that..........
Exactly!
-
I've broken so much sh-t lately I'm ready for a different kind of break..................
-
...
-
The only way.
-
...
-
WOW Lance! Incredible work. That color is bitchin!
:o
-
Right on Lance! I get new ideas everytime I look at your progress. Didn't want to go center stick for the shifter? I'm thinking I'll have a hard time adapting to left hand shifting. I may go right hand and do a linkage like you did.
-
...
-
I may be seeing things....it happens sometimes...
But is that a crankshaft stuck in the brick at the end of your driveway??
-
...
-
DUDE!! That is friggin sweeeeet!!!
-
They outlawed those "posts" around here due to idiots trying to run them over and wrecking their cars. What's that saying? "You can't fix stupid?"LOL!!!!
-
Yeah its bad ass!!
But like Fabr's dumb laws, here you could be responable if some is severaly injured or killed from your mailbox. Brick and rock mailboxes too. bs1
-
About 20 years ago a buddy of mine was having problems with the local kids play mailbox baseball. So I built him a mailbox. The post was 4X4 X .5 wall. The box itself was 6X6 X .250 wall. Stuck the pole about 4' in the ground with 6 sacks of cement around it. There were a few splinters on the side of in in the first couple of weeks. After that is was left alone.........
A year or so after it was installed, a drunk driver hit it at speed. split the car in 2 up to the windshield. engine landed in the drivers lap. He did not make it. After the tow truck pulled the car off we tilted it back into place and added a fresh coat of spray paint. It is still standing......
-
That's another reason they aren't allowed by federal usps regulations on any primary or secondary roads, only low speed side roads -I think ,according to the rumor mill around here. Don't quote me on that though. This post could possibly be complete BS for all I really know.
-
Yup! 2 BBC 454 cranks end to end ;D

Good use for cheby cranks. Might have to use this. ;D

Beat the $h!t out of it!!!!
-
You know i will :)
-
Very,very nice work guys.
-
Looks great. Have fun on the maiden voyage.
-
Nice work as always.
-
...
-
The 2uda has a better overall look by far! I like it. If I were you I'd investigate Mosebilts use of plated square tube when remaking the arms. That won't happen again. Love the press tip!!!! Genius!
-
Lance, Didnt we use the trailer jack to pop a bead on the tire. Kind of the same idea as far as a press goes... Leave it up to you to bend the arm!!! On the tie rods... Iv been using 4140 HT solid rod carved out for less weight. Maybe we need to go that route?
-
Looks great Lance!
-
...
-
Find a Mexican tire shop that does hot patch's and run that sucker....... Or you could tube it.....
-
On that steering sprocket setup would it not be better just to put the second bearing or add a third to the other side of the sprocket like the receiving end? Basically so that that primary steering shaft is in double shear like the secondary one is?
-
...
-
Moving the bearing down on the shaft till it's next to the sprocket would do wonders.
-
+1. Also,.060 is not enough even then for a steering column. IMO,.125 minimum.
-
Just a question, why all the partially welded coped tubes?
-
...
-
...
-
Cool,I thought those were finished pics. Makes sense now.
-
...
-
Looks like top notch engineering as usual!

Hey Lance, did you fab the bolt bosses yourself or find them online?
-
...
-
...
-
...
-
I'll have to watch tomorrow @ work. My Hughes sat internet is running dial up speeds as usual. I gotta get the desert car done !!!!!!
-
COOL as can be ,Lance!!! When we heading out? Late fall? I'm ready, cars should both be by then also. LOL!!!!
Just to be a safety nazi tho, the second vid shows why wrist/arm restraints should be worn at all times. That clearly shows what 99.9% of all people will do instinctively. 5/6 point harness and wrist/arm restraints, never ride naked. LOL!!!
What town is vid 4? I assume all the vids are from that area? Looks like a few of the run down towns around here. Do cars need any special permits or registration to run on streets or the desert there? I'd want to be legal when I get there if things should work out for me to meet up sometime.
-
Looks great Lance. Dont know how fast that last run was, but I will say the camera seems to cut the speed in half of what the ride felt like. Hopfully you got the bugs tweeked out now.
-
And this one is just for Fabr
How fast and how far do you want to go !!!!!!!!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3H3PJs0S7f8 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3H3PJs0S7f8)
Very cool. A never ending dragstrip. I'm in heaven!!!!!!! How far is it to wherever you would normally have to stop?
-
...
-
...
-
I knew you'd like that ;D
How far ? Miles..... the only thing you have to do is pre-run it so you know if there's any hidden dips or crossing trails that are gonna mess you up. The video of it is about 70mph. It was comfortable at 70 not "I really need to pay attention here" just cruising.
Heaven@120! After prerun ,of course!
-
...
-
looked like both of you had a good time!
-
The town is Randsburg. They allow you to drive green sticker or red sticker vehicles down the street SLOWLY so that you can come to town and spend 5 bucks a beer at their bar....... GRRRR
After some of the rides I have been on out there, I was happy to pay that for beer(s).
-
Lance, that bush that jumped out of the dust was the one that I buried a couple poops under... I could recognize that thing anywhere.
Looks like its runnung great! Hopfully I can get out there again next winter...
-
...
-
Very,very nice!
-
Nice. Drool....
-
Great color! Damn good looking buggy, congratulations!
-
Wow that looks awesome!
Dig that color!!
-
That orange really pops with the swirled alum!!
-
Looks killer! Whats next? I know you have something planned!
