Painting the fenders black was a good move for sure. Much nicer. Were they galvanized steel to start with? If so,did you use a galvanized metal primer or a paint made specifically for galvanized metal?

Probably aluminum..... Why not plasti cote?

Aluminum.  Appeared to be raw.  Sand, primer then paint.  Would have been nice if they came black.  Whatever.   Sarcasm

Not to rain on your parade but if it was either galv or aluminum,it's gonna peel in a few months unless right primer/paint was used. The label would say if compatible. if no mention,,,,,,,,,,,,,,well,it looks great now.

Fortunately for me I got the can that said "aluminum primer."  I fully expect them to take a beating and just as fully expect they will get touched up.  Their placement in relation to the wheels on the jeep, yeah, going to be rock catchers.  Maybe why they use unfinished aluminum?

I should have known you did your research. Cool. The black really makes the jeep and trailer look like they were made for each other. Get the matching wheels on it and -wow!

Aluminum most be treated to open up the pores to accept paint, be it chemfilm or anodize. If it was an etching primer it may stick for a while...........

OK,

Time for some mods to the trailer.  Need some input.  Next week I will get the rear bumper / new tire carrier installed.  Nothing will occur till then.  I suspect it might raise the rear spare tire a bit on the Jeep.

My issue is 20 #'s of stuff in a 15 # space.  As it sits now I have very limited access to the rear of the Jeep.  Just about enough for the fat dog to jump in.    Had figured I would need to relocate the battery box.  Then mounted the trailer spare to the tongue and it is worse.

Thinking of doing a double decker set up.  Lay the spare flat, battery and small tool box on one side.  Second level, drink chest, spare water, and our little "loo" bucket.

Any ideas?  Better ides?

Ah,the misery of limited space. I know it well. You'll figure it out, just be sure it fits YOUR needs. Everybody has their own level of inconvenience they are willing to tolerate.

Your trail rig and trailer is the cats ass for what you are doing!!!

in one of the earlier pics you posted of your camper i saw a tow hitch in an ankle buster position in the center of the rear. why not just buy a second one and mount them both at the outer edges and then make a stake in cargo carrier for the rear with handles that can be removed for the night while you are cooking in the rear kitchen? it will hold a lot more of your supplies than the front. if you put all of your fuel up front it will easily counter balance the cargo off the rear. use 2- 4" drop hitch's flipped over for height and weld the rack to those. that way you know it won't bottom out though the wash outs and dips.

There is a shin knocker back there.  I had not thought of that idea.  From what I read on the other forums, it has very limited capacity.   Hmmmm.....

by using two hitch's it won't wobble like the hitch mounted cargo platforms do and with two i'm sure it would hold 500 lbs? prob more than your going to add to it but easy to pull out and set out of the way with out a pyramid of containers up front.
