« on: October 01, 2008, 09:03:35 PM »
I'm needing an engineers help.I'm needing to know what size and # per foot I beam would be needed to support a 3000# load concentrated at the midpoint of a 48' span. I'm doing an overhead gantry crane for the shop.

I don't know but I'd think no more than a couple of inches.

They dont put steel beams under houses down there?

Dont forget, you have to factor in the weight of the beam as well, for overall load...

It's for the overhead gantry.

Does it majicly hold it self in the air? It has to sit on something. Your not sitting it on 4x4's on a 2" thick 12" diameter pad are you? ;D
