Steering rack for piranha
« on: January 17, 2012, 11:30:05 AM »
Hi everyone....

I'm planning to order a 14" rack for my piranha buggy, you can check it from the link below

http://www.mooreparts.com/store/product/1256/AC425150/

And tie rods

http://www.mooreparts.com/store/product/1247/AC425120/

Any recommendations or other options better than this one ?

Thanks all

I want to ask if you have determined that rack will work with your front suspension design without creating bumpsteer?

Carl breaks lots of stuff.  rofl  Hopfully something new to break this spring.   ;D

But Fabrs right, I was running an 11" and snaped the mount where the bolts hold it.  14" would be worse.  If the 14" rack is the correct width I'd put another $50 with it and get the "heavy duty" one listed just above or below that one on Moores site.

this would prob hold just fine http://www.mooreparts.com/store/product/1258/AC425152/
but as already stated if its not the correct width for your buggy its just a paper weight.  pick andmeasurment of front of buggy and we could give you the right answer.

and the tie rods are probably useless for your rail.  pickup "5/8 swedged alum rods" from speedway motors.  many different lengths threaded ends, 10-15 bucks.

If you are using the normal single a-arm design the length of the rack, point-point. Should be the same width as the pivot points of the a-arms.

Hope this helps

Yes those are the tierods.

Here is a basic drawing looking front front of car.  The rack should be the width of frame frome left side A-arm pivot to the right side A-arm pivot.
Hopfully this makes sense.  Are you building to plans?

Rashid,NOW is the time to do this part correctly. Follow Carl's advice. Also d a search here for bumpsteer. Lots has been written on the subject. One of the very most important things to the success ,and your happiness with the results of your build, is attention to this detail of assembly.

Yes Carl, but I have changed the design to double a arms instead of a single a arms
The distance between the left and right a arms pivots is 180mm which is about 7"
Do you thinks the 11" rack will work ?
Or should I increase the distance between the two a arms pivots?

yes that would be the way l would go, the 2 need to match and finding a 7" rack might be tough

use a centerload rack and a rack adapter then.
