Title: Part of the Plan - and a trip to see Bill at AZ TransAxle
Post by: Yummi on August 29, 2010, 03:50:31 PM
So, little project today.  Figured I could do this on my terms, or on the car's.

Going to "freshen up" the transaxle, new clutch, looks like at least one CV cage - need to clean the other three.  Rework a fuel filter, etc.  Also found a cracked transmission tab - time for some welding.... and going to have the alternator rewound....

So you took it apart to see why it was working so well?  ;D

Had the other tab already been replaced?  Is it thicker?  I can't really see what would cause it to break that way, but gusseting it couldn't hurt.  Was it completely broke in both spots and just hanging there or did you cut it off the frame?

Looks like the other tab was replaced.  Note the primer?  The car is known to have flown a few times.

Hanging tabs like that(we're all guilty) are prone to breakage like that.

The lower brackets are in good shape.  It is actually mounted in a whole heck of a lot better than my other car.

Like I say, he was know to fly.  Once he landed "short" and had a ride in the bus.  If one bracket is the only hidden find - I am golden.

So how did you find out about that tab's demise?   Was it the bang clunk or the wham Bama noise. kick kick kick Looks like a few more mounting locations are in order for the trans and engine.  And or a little haveyer gauge material. :o :o

While you are at Bill's see if you can get a peke at my trans.  haven't heard from him.

Stopped and saw Bill today.  He is a super nice guy.

Also spent some time looking at his mini build.  Cool little single seater with 20" up front and no bump steer, looks like Fox 2.5" and a polaris 500 for the power plant.  His kids will be stoked when it is done.  My camera was in the truck, but when i go pick up the box I will snap a few pictures.  You would think he would post up a few pictures.

He will also be welding on the tab for me - so he can come on and tell you all why my car is the shiznit. (I will have to pay him more to spread the shiznit rumors, but it will be worth it.)

Hmmm...  That could do it.

I saw the primer but wasn't sure what it meant.  It looks like the lowers have been worked on as well?
