Reverse gear INSIDE the Hayabusa motor. Replaces first!?!
« on: November 04, 2010, 03:43:01 PM »
http://www.minibuggy.net/forum/driveline/14080-reverse.html

http://www.spiesmetaalservice.nl/

http://www.autocrossbelgie.be/

The first link is to where the guy introduced himself like he knew a secret (He apparently did!) at that "other site". The second links are the ones to more info on it.

He claims his friend has removed first gear from the Hayabusa and replaced it with a little chain and sprockets and it makes for reverse. Thier was a little skeptism (myself included) but I thought I would pop it over here with all the links so you guys who do not or cannot go "over there" could see it and such.

Interesting to say the least. I do still think the shaft spinng the opposite was under the sprocket may be an issue but if they can make it work I guess it works? Neat either way if it works.

It'll work but you still have all the external chain issues to deal with. It isn't a new idea.

Just my opinion ,I think enemy will disagree tho,but there's no way in hell I'll do without first gear in a busa powered sand car. Eff that. For the purpose of the cars they are in I think it's a great idea.

I kinda agree that loosing one more forward ratio is never a great thing. But IF there were enough ratios left to satisfy you would/could simply run a driveshaft adaptor off a dwarf car from the Hayabusa motor into a small IRS diff thats strong enough to live behind a Hayabusa and it would give you a simple to make drvietrain.

At the cost of one less forward gear (and of course the cost of the reverse kit).

Again not for everyone. But maybe for some.

Might be the cats meow on a simple lightweight single seater.

Busas have a big jump from 1 to 2. After that there is very little ratio differences. In second it is just too damn high for trails and such ,IMO. At least I'm not sacraficing my first gear.

I would never give up first gear either. I love having a respectable top speed. Even with the extreme close ratio 5th and 6th share, you would still have to give up the top side (gearing) to keep from destroying the clutch to get moving without a first gear. Hell, I'm good at that WITH a first gear  ;D

That is an interesting idea although. For a very lightweight car like you say.

Old topic but I feel the need to say that the busa definitely needs overdrive 6th!  The whole gearbox needs a complete new set of ratios if a busa would ever be optimized in a car application. For the bike they are great, for a car the ratios suck. 1st is too high and 6th is way too low.

IF I could do my trans over again-

5th and 6th gear. http://store.schnitzracing.com/robinson-industries-tall-ratio-5th-6th-gear-suzuki-gsx1300r-hayabusa/

Not a huge jump for 1st gear, but with a 7% taller ratio on 5th and 6th, a whole world of final drive ratios opens up for helping take off and maintaining a tame cruising rpm I'm thinking?

I dont use 6th, just not enough space and cant drive on roads.  I'd give 1st for reverse, if the other gears 2nd-6th could be changed to like 1st-5th.  Prob have $2-3k in that and still have a 65-70 tooth rear sprocket and the chain.

That'd be fine on your lighter car but not for mine.

the idea is simple and compact but the price diff not sure. if you kept the motor n/a the ease of swapping long blocks is simple but shell a tranny with that mod and it might all be gone and back to square 1 but turbo and well time will tell. I like the chain for simplicity but the direct drive has a lot of pro's too.  I would still like to get my hands on a 09 or newer v-max to see what I could do with it, some day I will find one lol

a change of gearing in the trans would be nice but at this time sprockets are cheaper.  ;) ;D

Sprockets won't do a thing for tranny gear ratios. You been in the Jack last night? LOL!!!
