Title: Killpecker then to St.Anthony Trip?
Post by: fabr on April 01, 2018, 09:43:16 AM
Any interest in a 1-2 day Killpecker first, then on to St.Anthony for 3-4 day trip early this fall? Maybe ??

I'll likely be pretty hooked up this early fall. Maybe interested in just a killpecker trip. Maybe make it a 3-4 day thing?

But doubt a fall dune trip will happen.  Lots going to be happening this fall, my kiddo off to Mercer college, Yvette's off to grad school in N Carolina, so we will be taking on 2nd jobs LOL.  But who knows?

And Killpecker is funny Yum

killpecker is 11 hrs from me. st a is another 4 hrs. always wanted to stop at killpecker on the way home but once on the road i just want to get home lol shoulda left a day early and stopped i suppose. i have always heard from people that have been there thats its not that good. now i wqant to stop just say i have run those dunes like i did at syracuse kansas. i would like to run over to Ls utah for a day then head up to st a idaho. just wont happen this year.

If looking for tall dunes,Killpecker would not be good. I'm looking for more wide open riding and Killpecker looks good to me. Just climbing dunes is not all that much of a draw to me. Lots and lots of rollers with little to no chance of traffic on the other side sounds like a very fun time.

I could go for a LS ,Utah only trip  though.

Id be interested in any trip this fall. If its LS, St A, Killpecker, Utah. Count me in as long as we get a decent group together. Id like to do a Late summer early fall trip to LS so I could bring the kiddos while out of school. I can handle the temps that time of year if anyone else is game...

What dates you thinking of? If I have the toter engine/trans transplant done I need to do a shakedown trip. Transplant starts right after this LS trip. A late summer trip would fill the bill.

Ok I will speck out about a Killpecker trip.  Count me out. Been there done that.  Endless dirt roads getting there, finding a camping spot that is level enough to park and unload is a pain in the butt.  Cold and windy, rocky have I said Endless dirt roads getting there.  If you don't have a bunch of rattles in your tow vehicles you will have.  Don't even try it when it has rained.  You can not get the mud stains out of a white trailer.   And have I said anything about the endless dirt roads getting there?

I Have a brother that lives just up the road from Killpecker. In Big Piney WY. He will not go there. for the same reason Fastcorvairs said. your tow rig and trailer will never be the same.

Some folks are just wussies.................... :) :) :m Regardless,I'm going to do it in the near future. The wide open rolling dunes intrigue me a lot more than just running up and down tall dunes. Hill climbing holds little attraction for me.We have some of the gnarliest dirt hills to climb anywhere within a mile of my house. Then we have Disney ,Oklahoma about an hour and a half away.Burned out on that many years ago.  I guess I understand all the flat landers attraction to the hills though.

Man, I'm still down! Makes me want to go there even more! I love a good adventure just getting to the places I've been, never a dull moment.. Especially out in BFE Nowhere, USA  :D

Sounds like wide open fun!  Always wondered about room to camp just of paved and buggy up dirt rd. But I’ve read the roads are better more maintained last couple yrs. we have about 1% chance this yr, so can’t wait to hear about it.

i know i can't go this year. i know two that have been in the last 3 years and they said they white rocked the road back to the entrance. all primitive still though but a lot of trucks run that road so i guess it gets pretty rutted out. still would like to see it. i know the guys that live by there just go to LS utah and idaho before they go there lol still want to see it.

We're on the same page for sure!!   I can't make any plans till toter is done after this LS trip but looking at the historic weather for KP it appears that anytime up till Sept would be nice weather and likely dry. I don't think any reservations are needed at KP. rofl rofl rofl rofl rofl rofl I mean it's always soooooo crowded. bs1 ;D

Sort of like living in NYC and never going to the Statue of Liberty or St.Louis and not taking in the arch or living in Ariz and never seeing the Grand Canyon type of thing?

This, for me 1/2 the distance to St Anthony and I could hit Coral Pink on the way up.

I'd be inclined to do a trip like Fast did a few years ago and make a big ass loop out to Oregon and hit several places on the trip going and coming. It would take some planning to pull off successfully but would be a lot of fun. Probably a 2 week + thing.

We've talked about a Killpecker trip several times but it hasn't happened. If several want to do one on the way out to St.A pr even a dedicated Killpecker trip I'm game.

i will not be able to make  a st a trip this year. too much going on for that long of a trip.  i wanted to check out killpecker on the return trip last 2 times but by the time i was on the road i just didn't have the energy to stop  ;D rofl

I agree. If a Killpecker trip is ever done it seems like it needs to be just a Killpecker adventure by itself.

Ok, guys, Killpecker is not a destination-al place to go play.  Number one Wess there is not a flat place to park your rig anywhere in the parking lot.  there is no hookups, no water, no elc, and no surer.  Cross your fingers that it doesn't rain going in or coming out.  The weight for a biggggggggggggg tractor to pull you out might be long.  5: LMAO

Campground looks OK. Room to turn my big ass around even with big trailer. I was thinking of just driving toter with yxz's on the flatbed to make things easier though. I'm fully self contained and so are most of us for a couple days dry camping. Wouldn't be a problem. Just looking for something a little different. Maybe I'll do it and maybe not.
