oil filter crusher
« on: November 19, 2011, 07:52:00 PM »
Anyone have one, or have any plans? Found this.

We currently have 2-55 gal barrels of oil filters from our fleet of equipment. Problem is we can't recycle these unless they are crushed and have the oil removed. Came across this video, and looked at there site. and these crushers are expensive. Ranging from $2 to $5k depending on model. I should be able to take a electric over hydraulic pump and mount up a 14" stroke cylinder(log splitter) and crush some filters. Just gotta take our largest oil filter and start measuring. Anyone have any ideas or tips?

Kinda the wrong time of year to look for a deal on one but might watch the local adds for a deal on a logsplitter itself that splits wood vertically and make a adaptor to insert and hold the filters.

Should be but I would still prefer a vertical one to keep the mess lower and away from the rest of it.

Take a peek on craigs list in your area for a deal on a bigger one.

Of course real oil filter crushers have containment areas as when crushed oil will be spewed.

So I guess a horizontal one would be fine as the place you make to crush the filter will be contained and enclosed with a drain to one side.

You could make it vertical with a hole on the bottom with a hose hooked up to a pail for squeeze out oil. Very simple.
