Any ideas on high temp air hose?
« on: June 03, 2017, 08:37:32 AM »
Here is the deal.  The Jeep has an on-board air compressor.  From that I ran an air line to the front bumper with a chuck so I would not have to open the hood for access.  The line failed at the barb due to heat.  The compressor head gets wicked hot.  Tried to extend fitting, thinking maybe dissipate some heat.  No luck.  Looked for high temp air hose.  Currently using a hydraulic line with rubber, steel mesh, rubber.   Apparently has a lower temp rating than the air line.  I have limited hope for the hydrulic line.

As it comes off compressor via chuck, easy to work around but really defeats purpose of having it routed outside of engine compartment. Takes about three tires of fluff then - pop.

Nothing local at two parts stores and hardware store.  BTW, dude at hardware store stated "that is 300*, that is pretty high"  Seriously dude; I bake cookies at a higher temperature.  300* just not that hot.

Checked on line.  Not in the mood to buy 10' minimum.  Any ideas on where to pick something up that would work? I need a foot or so, maybe 18" just to get away from compressor head unit.

not sure how hot your getting but this line is rated up to 450*

http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Aeroquip-FBC0600-6-AN-TFE-Braided-High-Pressure-Hose-11-32-Inch-ID,28395.html

and this one is rated for 500*......both exceed the psi your putting out with that pump and can be purchased in small quantities.

yep .....or hard line it with a quick release chuck at the bumper. then the hose only sees heat when you connect it rather than the pump and under hood temps together.

DS,those work fairly well with fluids but not so well with air/gasses.

something like this might do the trick. has sweat fit already on one end and the other looks like it could be cut off to allow sweating necessary fittings on each end, maybe. The corrugations would add a lot of surface area to help cool without fins.

yep but it looks like heat at the fitting is melting the hose. i guess i don't know if the hose is melting like that all the way back or just at the fitting. i figured if just at the fitting those would absorb the heat and reduce it at the fitting but hard line would be the best to a quick disconnect.

I think he is experiencing high heat at the fitting but adding a short length of copper tube as he did didn't improve the situation. I think he is needing either much higher temp hose or a longer heat sink such as hard line or something like we've suggested to get the temp down. Either way, getting the temp down as much as possible before entering the tire is a good thing even if he finds a suitable high temp hose.

absolutely ! i would hard line it with prob soft copper or even aluminum line if possible. i only say soft copper as i think its thicker wall. not sure the psi rating or what that pump puts out but easy to work with and sweating fittings on it easy too.
