"Another" welder question. this time used tig?

Getting the Mig211 soon enough.

Looking to also perhaps snag me a local Tig off CList if I find a smoking deal. Been doing a fair bit of reading on ones I see on there but any input on deals you see that should not get away?

Thanks!

Not an answer as such to your question but I assume you are going to tig aluminum? If so,the new inverter based units are the cat's arse. If welding steel mostly a Miller syncro 250 or 350 is pretty hard to beat. They also do pretty damn good on aluminum. The inverter based units are much smaller/lighter than the transformer based units.
If you get lucky and get a flex head torch with one it's all the better also. I highly suggest you check out all the different flex head torches out there. They make welding out of position joints easy as can be. Also if welding on round tube buy a gas lens setup for the torch. Drastically improves the shielding gas coverage and improves the weld appearance/quality

Seriously want to look at this (its also 120 or 240 volt Multi plug) but i have been told its just a newer version of the econotig and better can be had. Still studying if it would do aluminum I might choose too and more.

Ya,I like that type as you can lock them in place. The limp neck type are no good ,IMO-too hard to get "just right". I have an i-head brand one that I LOVE but unfortunately no longer available.

You can go very cheap  if only welding steel. All it takes is a dc cracker box welder for the power source,an air cooled torch of whatever quality/style you wish and a bottle of shielding gas. Built my first race car cage with a setup like that over 35 years ago.  No high freq,no foot pedal,no hand control, just a down and dirty TIG welder for steel that will weld steel cages as well as top $$$$$ units.

WHere's the torch hoses for that torch? Possibly burned them up is why torch is for sale. Check it out carefully to see if that is the case,if the torch is damaged from it and finally if you can even get replacement hoses and worth it to buy just hoses.

Yah that torch head alone could be damaged goods. I was just using it for an example as it was handy. I hate trying to buy misc parts to only have to piecemeal it together and spending more in the long run than new and a lot of wasted time. I will take it all there ready to go any day in a kit or plug and play.

I would take a good deal on a steel only TIG and may but I would also LOVE to have a good tig for aluminum. I have never tigged aluminum but mostly due to lack of a machine to do it with.

I have a bit more reading to do as to whats needed to make a good TIG for aluminum and whats not so I can try to buy the right machine.

I would prefer an inverter model just for the compactness but I see a lot of guys saying the bigger units are better. I have no plans to weld for hours on end so a crazy large duty cycle is not needed but if I would score a hell of a deal on a machine that had the features and a long duty cycle then that would not hurt my feelings.

Just hate to buy a $1400 unit to find that for $1600 I coulda had a V-8! (so to speak!) with bells and whistles most wish they had sprung for.

A lot of the bells and whistles are just not needed for us mere mortals of welding. Good torch skills are much more important for us.

I do know that to be true but just wish to not have buyers regret due to missing some thing thats desireable and not just a hook.

Got my NIB Miller 211 Mig and also in the same weekend scored a pretty dang good deal on Dynasty 200 Tig/arc with a butt load of extras. Its a bit older of course but like new and came with a foot pedal but I think I am going to try to find a thumb control for it. There are a few different styles of thumb control so need to figure out which would be best.

I hate the thumb controls. I have a simple contactor switch on my torch for welding steels.I like that much, much better as there is no need for amp control as with aluminum. I use the foot pedal only when aluminum tigging.

I'm sure I won't. Only had mine a few years but it is more capable than I am.
