clearance cut outs
« on: November 12, 2008, 02:58:37 AM »
so i have been talking to doug about a sprocket. i built the stupid rear around that darned 45 tooth sprocket. its like 9 3/4 inches in diameter. the max size i can use with out contacting my top arm during full droop is about 11 inches maybe spare 1/8 or so.  60 tooth sprocket is 12.175.  is it a really bad idea to clearance cut the top arm like this..   ===/\== to clear the sprocket?

yeah it is BUT if its what you gota do, you gotta do it.

Can you use a smaller front sprocket to compensate? With the just clear rear sprocket???

Maybe bend the upper to a ''J'' configuration like the old Banshee front control arms...Tractors running don't have time to paint one up...

Drop the front to 13 then you could use a 55+- rear.  Would be about the same as 14/60 and could see if 55 would fit space.
You can keep your CHANGE, I'd like to keep my DOLLAR.

Thats what I had suggested and it seems he will be going this route. I will be custom cutting a 55 tooth for him. Glad to help and I may cut a few extra 55 blanks for any future needs.

Any idea on a design you would want me to have cut into it for lightening and style?

It depends on the cutter. I dont charge extra to draw up a sprocket design that I may have cut anyway.

Its all doable but you also want it to be a strong design...
