Camel, from Australia
« on: February 22, 2009, 07:01:27 AM »
Hi,

I'm Camel,  I'm from Australia.  I joined because Trojan said he'd pay me $5 if I joined up.  C'mon Trojan, cough up.

Seriously now.  I suppose I joined because I wanted to partake in some buggy-centric discussion with persons of a similar ilk in a large (global) forum.  Where opinions can be raised and discussed in an adult-like manner without resorting to ad hominum or censorship. And because I miss seeing some of the really good stuff being done by the likes of Doug and Adam.

Who am I?  Dad to six kids, husband to an occasionally psycho wife, mortgaged to the hilt and therefore forced to work in some bizarrely out-of-the-way places to pay for my buggy habit.  I'm self-employed. Mainly designing and implementing management systems (health, safety, environmental, security, community, contractor) for construction, mining, oil and gas companies.

I own several bikes, one of which is currently running (2008 Hayabusa) and am a motorcycle mechanic by trade.  Yup, an actual four year trade; an indentured apprenticeship working on just about everything.  I love bikes and I love racing them, but my body doesn't heal as well as it used to and I'm carrying too many repaired bones and organs to continue risking it.  Sadly, the bike trade doesn't pay enough to keep my kids fed and me in a hobby.

I love making stuff.  Especially stuff that does stuff.  I'm building two buggies, loosely Barracuda based, one a two-seater.  I've got most of the bits, plus the bent tubing, I just need time!

I'm also a member of WASA, Western Australia Superlites Association (Inc).  A great group of motivated guys who don't get rabid with competitiveness and who help and support fellow members.  I'm proud to belong to that club.

Looking forward to conversing with you.

Welcome Camel, love your avatar!  I guess one thing everyone has in common here is trying to find a way to "Git er done".  Can't wait to see some pictures.

I have seen some pictures and videos from the WASA events, and it looks like a great organization.  Someone needs to start a thread and give us an overview of how the club works, the classes, schedule, etc.  Or a link to their website.  Google hasn't turned anything up for me, but I'm just a lazy American.  ;D

I am really curious what came first the chicken or the egg, I mean the Pirranha and Cuda or the club.

Anyway Welcome!

I think DTS should host there link at the home page and maybe they could do the same for DTS??? I believe it would create intrest and knowledge to benefit both sides.

I have talked to the top members of SEQMB and was informed they would do the same. Lets get it done!!!

A couple more, Doug mentioned these guys www.seqmbc.com , perhaps get in touch with them, and, my club www.torc.com.au , I havent spoken to anyone there about this issue, but admin might like to contact them as well re: mutual promotion.

Torc hav had their class regs accepted by our national racing committee CAMS (Confederation of Australian Motorsports) and these can be viewed here. http://www.torc.com.au/Buggyv12final.pdf these are for all our classes of Superlites.

Thanks guys, nice to feel welcomed!

I've got the link in my signature.

I'll attach the DTSfab link to my WASA signature.

Re: the avatar, yeah that's the Gen II 'busa.  I brought it as a write-off at auction. My trained eyes told me this thing was still straight, it had been hit up the arse by a 4wd at a stop light.  The rider didn't even fall off!  It looked a klot worse than it was.  They thought the sump or cases were compromised because there was an 'oil leak'  turned out to be a squashed rear brake master cylinder.  To cut a long story short I got the bike back to as new condition using second hand and a few new parts.  I put it back on the road because I wanted to keep it running and play with the donk while I built the buggy.  All up, the bike plus parts cost me less that half the price of a new Hayabusa.  And it only had 3000 kilometres on it!

Artie, how's the casting coming along?
