Ok I looked at the pix again and it seems it is already using two bearings on the idler.

Here are the type of bearings that I was thinking of:

I agree on the bearings that you show but still IMO the biggest culprit is the shaft. I like your suggestions on how to add to it's rigidity. might work well.

What does the aluminum piece that cradles around the reverse planetary actually do?  It is quite rigid because of the semi-circular shape of its standoff.

I think it acts as an oil bath/splash for the planetary.

What about two idlers instead of one? Like a Pete Jackson?

Shouldn't be needed as the planetary only functions when in reverse.

I think it would be too high torque to do with a floating idler assembly like a PJ drive. I've used several in the past before belt drives came about. I also think that 2 idlers on 2 single supported shafts would still deflect but it might be a big enough band aid.

Jeffco is back in and took it out for a few heat cycles. So far so good..

Visually, He girdled the idler support on the outside of the case and added an extra bearing support for the input shaft. Sorry I did not have time or ambition to open it up and check out the new internals, unfortunately. Hopefully wont ever have too either!

The box is MUCH tighter feeling in all gearing including the spiders. Feels like I now have somewhat of a "Poor-mans posi"  in the backend! (what my uncles used to call a tight one-wheel-wonder car ;D)
Chain is reused from quite a few runs last year and holding up very well..The Jeffco runs cool as well... Bonus.

My bro threw on the helmet and Go-pro and went on mild heat cycle run with me. Afterwards, we discovered that the chain and transmission temps should no longer be an issue.
Also discovered that the camera position sucks! My apologies, we're learning  ;)

New exhaust is working SWEET! Much more crisp off boost and helped clean up a few rich areas I was fighting. I have a couple "Toilet Flushing" fuel cells to clean up in low boost areas, but I'm going to wait till LS to work with those.

I dumped the oil in it and refilled with Red-Line's version of a 75-140 with their new Shock-Proof additive.

This is some interesting stuff to view left over in an empty jug. It definately leaves a thin film stuck to the walls! My best friend is a Redline dealer so I sometimes get some pretty good deals as well if any are interested  :)

I'll get some pics of the car up in the other threads.
WOOHOO! Bring on Little Sahara!

Enemy had a good few days so far at LS. Only one dead chain and no heat issues. Seems the Jeffco upgrades are working well also.  :) :) :) 8) 8)

Pulled into the trailer under its own power! (Belching black soot from running WAY rich, but under its own power.  ;D )

I fried an 02 sensor and the only spare I brought was a used dud as well, so not much tuning time accomplished. But OH WELL, I HAD A FRIGGIN BLAST!!!!!
