Voo,your stator is likely capable of higher than stockoutput. How much more is the question. To get more from it though yoyu need a higher amp rated regulator.

Carl  ,have you measured how many amps you're producing under full load? All lights, fuel pump and accessories running with a fully charged battery. Compare that to the rated output of your system.  IF you are pulling more amps than your system is rated at you need to get more amps. From here the answer is the same as above for voo.

Most likely. Sears/Craftsman sells a nice relatively cheap, approx $60, AC/DC clamp on multimeter that makes getting amps easy. Most cheaper clamp on multimeters will measure AC amps but not DC so beware if buying one.

You definitely need to balance the load..

My Raptor 660 stator puts out 240 watts..  There is a 300W high output stator available.  Problem is I wanted to run a pair of 100w KC Daylighters..  Stock for the rappy is a pair of 55W lights.

If I run with both daylighters on, my battery wont get the charge it needs.  Thats not good, but its not the end of the world.  Worse though is it taxes the crap out of my stator, and could cause my stator to fry..  LOTS of discussions on a raptor forum about this, and I've opted to only run 1 KC at a time :(  Not a lot of night riding for me, but still stinks.

Some companies will re-wind a stator for higher output, but then you need the regulator like Mastr mentioned.  Ricky Stator makes upgraded stators, but I've heard of lots of failures on aftermarket stators.

I agree in general .  Most stators will allow slightly higher output regulators to be used  BUT as you said IF you tax the stator too much it may/will fry. Another thing that will fry stators are loose connectors.

Yeah, those loose connections fry grounds, CDI's and coils as well..  Just ask me how I know that one!  LOL

Yes I do, but you'll have to wait until after the LS trip, if you can't made it down. Everything at work has gone to hell and now I'm having to work the next 2 Saturday's and Sunday's and get all my stuff rounded to I'm ready to go south. 8) 8) 8)
