frame guessting
« on: March 09, 2010, 07:21:46 PM »
What are your opinions about this type of guessting? Post# 13 fourth pic and so on. He used the tubing notcher pieces. Do you think it will hold up?

Doesn't make much sense. Unnecessary, time consuming, increases the HAZ and also concentrates it,the areas being used in are already amply strong connections,,,,,,,,,,,,want more ?

perhaps even a small loss from unnecessary heat input.  There are cases where a gusset may be quite appropriate but not those. At least not IMO. This isn't gussetting but plating but it's a good example of where additional bracing/reinforcement can be beneficial. Note the plating around the heim pinch bung.

I'm sure it has been discussed before, but isn't that rear end useless offroad? I would think the sprocket on disk brake would be destroyed in no time. Hate to catch it on something and be stranded.
If you remain calm while everything around you is complete chaos... then you probably haven't fully understood the situation!

Caliper and disc are separate from the sprocket but yes, they are both out there just waiting to be smacked by a big ol' rock or stump or............................whatever.

Sounds like your lookin to talk some smack
Now did you weld the joint before you put your gussets in?
I got to looking at the pix
I'd have welded the joint 1st, then tacked in the gusset like you showed
Personally I don't care either way...Not my buggy
