Tom Pro Design Hayabusa Alternator
« on: April 27, 2012, 10:46:53 PM »
I have been walking by this...umm.... "Item", sitting on the g-rage counter for a little while now.. Shaking my head some days. Laughing my ass off others.. I wont get into details of my angry destructive thoughts :v

So here it is.. The Tom Pro Design Hayabusa Alternator
http://www.ebay.com/itm/TOM-PRO-DESIGN-ALTERNATOR-HAYABUSA-GSXR-1300-STATOR-/300390417196?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item45f0aa032c

Looks nice doesn't it? (Hopefully you have at least 3 "W.T.F's" on this first pic..If not, all hope is lost for you  ;D )

Modified GM alternator with awesome custom cover and state-of-the-art NASA style wiring protection

Simple one wire connection! WOW! Check out those tolerances for ultra compactness!

Added...um.. cooling..

Air vectoring technology for precision cooling? That would be my guess..

"Still gooey" vibration dampening for those ultra sensitive electronics....or whatever the eff is under there.....

Lets take a look under the hood of this "One Wire" bitch!

WOW!!!! Military-style connectors and soldering!!!!

I will cool down with a yummy Budweiser in a frosty mug that is just calling my name on the other side of the keyboard and listen to hail smash into my roof! Happy Friday all. Cheers!

Wow machine work looks killer! Not!!!  State of the art cooling slots look like and after thought. Here let's drill some holes and use a router to route some slots.  I would be standing on someone's chest with a hammer untill I got my money back on this POS.

If I believe I cannot do something it makes me incapable of doing it. But when I believe that I can, then I acquire the ability to do it , even if I didn't have it at the beginning.

He machines them "in house" also. I'd be ashamed to admit that. Are the TomPro cars also a POS ?  That "in house" machine work doesn't speak well of TomPros concern for quality.
BTW,WTH would you ever need 100+ amps in your buggy???????????????? DO you reaalize the HP drag if that thing was making 100 amps? (without frying itself that is)

I generally thought well of tom pro stuff, that makes some concerns.

I'm thinking the 100 amp is to run the toyhauler, just in case to solar stuff can't keep up.

i wondered if you would ever post pics of what to expect from that company!!  there is no qc with that company at all if this is there top of the line work.  I have seen that several time now and I have to shake my head at it too. I am surprised they picked that alternator, there are lighter weight ones to choose from. if it was a quality piece I think it would be a nice addition. enemy if it were me I would call them or e-mail a link to this post and voice my discuss and see what happens if nothing else it will make you feel good!!
i don't think they used a router though, I believe tom pro used one of those rotor zip tools.  ;D  I haven't seen under the cap till just now though and holy shit wtf were they thinking!!!!!!!!!!!

Not the second unit, just a simple issue of the alternator being locked up the first time around  eyes. Got that sorted out and at the same time went on to other projects and it sat in a pile of other "to do"  stuff for a couple months.

Now I am back to driving the car and again verifying that 50 amps out of the stock system is not sufficient at night with everything running, I've got my mind back on it. I just popped that cover off an hour before I started snapping pics and sharing the info. Right about the time I'm attempting once again to kickk my own ass for not getting on this monstrosity sooner. What a friggin disaster..

Seriously though, I really like the concept. A little baby 70 amp marine style alternator would be more compact and plenty of power with the stock stator removed. But can someone please enlighten me on what that mess of effin wiring is meant to accomplish?? Why not a ONE WIRE alternator??

Before the Idaho trip I did have it rebuilt and converted to a true "one wire" and had every intention of trying it out, but didn't get to it. Now I will be rewiring the entire stator to the rec/reg cause it is showing signs of wanting to melt down again like it did on the bike. So it's still sitting under the bench holding down some parts catalogs. Future car mods may not include a Hayabusa motor, so unclear of this parts future.
