Title: October Sand In Your Beerfest /Camp Group Reservation
Post by: fabr on July 22, 2009, 01:24:52 PM
DUe to some fubar I need to repost this info from Fastcorvairs and a couple other posts ::)

Quote, fastcorvairs, "OK guys here is the deal.

I and master have had a brain fart and want to run and idea across you people that are planing on the October trip to LS.  I have talked to the lady and gent that run the Deuces Wild camp ground.  That is the camping park that is just south of the city park and just north of the road that goes to the Cowboy camp ground. You can walk to the grocery's store and Jimmy's sand store form there. You use the sand highway that runs parallel to the Cowboy camp ground road to get to the dunes. I can work a deal on a group rate and or at the lest can get us a discount per slot at the camp site.  These are pretty nice pull Thur with full hook up slots.  I can get my 72 feet of rig in the center slots with no problem and there is a real nice grassy spot for the people that are pitching tents. Did i mention full sewer water electric and lots of shade trees. Lots of room for a 18 wheeler.  The camp ground owner drives a tractor trailer and parks it there to. See attached pictures from last week end.  Let me and Master know how many for sure are coming down and I will get back with the camp site pep's.  It would put all of us in one spot and I believe would be far less then the cost of a spot at cowboy or the south lot.  We need to start a list some where.  Like we did for the flags.  It would be kewl as hell to have every one in one spot don't ya know. "

Go online to Deuces Wild camp ground Waynoka Okc. for information on the camp ground.

So for now the list is:

Fastcorvairs----1 Pull Thru 50 amp?
masterfabr------1 Pull Thru 50 amp
Dunebound/dsrace----1 Pull Thru 50 amp

 Anyone else. Let me know.

I will know by the end of today what kind of $$$$$$$ we are talking about.

Dune I believe all the pull thru sites are 50 amp. Fast?

That would be right.  50 amp service on all the pull thru's. All the center pull thru's are full service.  All the ones along the west tree line are shaded in the afternoon and 30 amp service.  The full price of a full service is $25.00 per night.  We will get a discount form that.  Us ones that are going to use the center pull thru's should get them reserved asap.  Lady said that they are about half gone for that week already.  Rest of the park not to full yet.

edited by me

Ok here is the deal.  Just got off the phone with the camp host.

All the camper slots will be $20.00 a night. 50 amp and 30 amp.

One large area in the middle at the north end of the where the grass is will fit two camping trailers and three or four tents.  That spot will go for $50.00 a night split between who ever is in it.  I would think that the trailer people would pick up the bulk of it and leave the rest for the tent people. That spot has a 30 amp service and a 50 amp service and water. There is a porta pottie on the campsite but anyone needing to shower will have to go to the shower's at Cowboy.  Or bum a shower off one us that has showers in their trailers.

Yeah Ladies dont blow their nose in the shower and leave the long curlies in the drain  ;D

Set that up with a security camera. Dont want them to think they can get away with wasting hot water in there.

Im in for a spot. I wont be taking up much room although I may have another 1 or 2 parties meeting up from my group.

Yes I have a group started. Groupies!

Are you sure we can drive our rails straight to the dunes from 24hrs a day? Mapquest makes it look like quite a drive. I just want to make sure there is 24 hr dune access for us without loading/unloading of rigs.

This site is where you say ya or na if you are going.  When It looks like everyone that is interested in going is signed in here then I'll call and let them know how many of us are coming down and many spots we need.

The sand highway runs by the camp ground.  You can come and go as you please. No loading or unloading of your buggies. There is a nice kiddy track at the south end of the camp that the young ones can run on. Just need to watch out for them when you leave.Go to Google earth and you mite get a better idea how it is laid out.

Note

This camping area is about a block away from a train track.  Trains run on this track 24 7 every 15 to 20 minuets.    If the wify can't sleep with the whizel blowing then you mite need to bring ear plugs. If in a camper you can't hear them. If in a tent It mite be a different story.

Hi, I'd like to share a Google Maps link with you.

Here is the link.  If you zoom onto Ash street count about four block to the west of 281 and then look south. You can see the camping area and the sand highway going to the Cowboy camping area.

Make that four and one half blocks.

I just got off the phone with DS. We are going to camp at Cowboy camp instead. My rig is has no water system. He was there this spring and said the pull through sites fit our friends 2 rigs a 30 ft goose neck and a fifth wheel plus pickups, rails in ONE site no problem. DS already sent the word out for a bunch of other coming from Nebraska that we would be there. I hope to be there early evening on Wednesday we will probably try and take over 2 to 4 sites.

Lets ask him if dueces would be OK instead. I don't think DS even knows about the Dueces camp. It would be cheaper, cleaner, and all hookups including sewer are there.

I think Dune means that his trailer don't have water and and DS is expecting some other people to find him at Cowboy.

Ahh,I'll talk to DS I'm sure in the next day or 2. Plenty of time till then. Cowboy camp is free tho IF the rangers don't make it by that is! Otherwise I think it's what? 18 bux a day for the state campground.

Correct I do not have a toilet, shower in the trailer. There are several people from outside the DTS group coming down that we have gone with for years. And I don't get along with porta-pots. Most are tent campers so the train could be an issue for them. But the modern bath facilities is the major factor.

I am leaning toward Cowboy for the same reasons. Ill be a tenter and I like a close shower. I stayed there before and really like them. You can actually see the peaks of some of the taller dunes from Cowboy as well.

I will be at Cowboy this trip. I like (and want!) some trees around me just in case that Sandstorm (yes I capitalized it..lol) finds out we came back for a second round. I don't think the 'ole truck-tent could take another beating like that!  ;D. I also like to get out the gate and be at the big dunes.  ;)
Title: Re: October Sand In Your Beerfest /Camp Group Reservation

FWIW,I understand your needs but there are more trees at Dueces and the dunes are no more than a couple of minutes away. However there is far less sand/mud to contend with and far fewer sand burrs at Dueces. At any rate it would be nice if those going would stay either at Cowboy or Dueces so we would all have easy access to each other just a few minutes apart. The south camps make you travel the dunes or take the town roads to get to each other.

yes I will be staying at cowboy camp, on the state side. when the little cinnamon bear starts scratching at the door the big brown monster isnt' far behind!!  a friend of mine and his group stayed there last time, I really liked it. as a matter of fact that is where I met fastcorvairs for the first time. I do agree tho riding back and forth across the dunes to meet up sucks and does kill almost a half a day of riding but like enemy said you do find some ride time between as long as you don't high center like myself, those darn razor backs!!

Oh hell yea! I bet I will, I like to change it up any chance I can get, keeps the trips as far away from "routine" as possible....If there is such a thing ::)

I will check it out on this trip and most likely stay there on the next outing. By that trip I hope to have me a small enclosed with sleeping quarters. And maybe go do some "Cash for Clunkers" shopping to find a truck to pull it  ;D ;D

I already have ours reserved.  Plus I have the big grassy area that was just north of my trailer when you were down there. You don't have to pay until you show up.  That's one nice thing about the Deuces you don't have to send money. They collect when you get there.

Are you guys sure you know just where the Deuces Wild camp grounds are?  They are not down around the south state camping area. They are just two or three minutes north along the pavement that goes to Cowboy.   When you turn off of 281 HYW to go to Cowboy if you were to look to the right just as the road turns south you could see Deuces Wild if it were not for the trees. Guys we are only talking a three minute ride to the showers.
