Interesting Reverse Box

I had recently been thinking of building a reverse box using transmission parts..... looks like I was beaten to the punch.  Looks pretty slick.

Here is the translation from the guys video info: "The first test of the back box Reverse box for a Barracuda buggy built using a Triumph Daytona 600 gearbox"

The guy has a couple videos of him ripping around in that buggy.. So it seems to hold up to that atleast..  its the exact same idea ive been thinking about for a while.. makes me mad I tossed out my old rod knocking katana motor.

looks like a nice simple idea with straight cut gears. i wonder how well he was able to maintain proper gear alignment and gap within ?  the guys that converted an old suzuki sidekick transfer case into a rev box was really interesting to.

tHE THING THAT HAS ALWAYS BOTHERED ME ABOUT THIS TYPE OF IDEA IS THE FACT THAT IN FORWARD RANGE (DAMN CAPS) the power flow is through 3 smaller (weaker) gears and reverse is through 2 larger(stronger) gears. It's just bass ackwards .  Is it strong enough? Probably plenty strong for a 600 in a lightish buggy . On the other hand a turbo busa might eat it for breakfast. Sort of like busas like eating Jeffco boxes................................... right enemy?   ;) ;)

What I liked about it, is that it is constructed from the transmission of a 600cc motorcycle.  So to my puny brain it makes sense that if my internal transmission on the bike engine can handle the abuse... wouldnt the gears in a box like that?  Or am I missing that more torque and such is being applied.  idk, its something im interested in.  Also ive been really interested in shaft driven ideas opposed to chain...

I'd think you would be OK but as you said,the torque multiplication might be an issue. I have no idea if that would be a concern long term for a light car using the gears shown. What gears are those in the bike trans and are they meshed to one another in the trans or are they mated to different gears in the trans? That would possibly be a concern as to mismatched gear face profiles. Initially,I'm sure,you would be fine.

DS posted a IRS rear diff from a car with pretty close flange to flange dimension that has 930 cv flanges available for it.IIRC that is. that would be super easy to run driveshaft style with no chains to eff with . No reverse though and overkill for your application,IMO.
