I have spent around $300 on Argon.  I didn't realize it would go so fast.

I guess I am lucky I don't see the electric bill to add to the horror. ;D

Straight Argon is around $100 a bottle.  I use 25/75 on the mig and it seems to last forever.

On the tig I run at about 20 (I don't know if it is cfm?) and when the bottle starts to run out and the cfm drops It is definately a problem so I don't want to turn the cfm down.  The gas keeps running for 10-15 seconds after stopping welding.  I assume it is to cool the tip etc.   I would turn down the time but there is no adjustment that I can find.  Now that I know the cost I cringe every time I bump the pedal or don't get an arc started etc because it runs gas for the purpe cycle.

Am I doing it wrong?

Kill the postflow!!!!!!!!! unless you're welding 4130 even then you only need 5 seconds or so.On thin tube the weld pool cools rapidly so it won't be contaminated by atmosphere after just a few seconds. Preflow of just a couple seconds is good also. No need to be wasting that extra gas. There's  bound to be post and pre adjustments on the machine somewhere.

here,125 cu ft. is $44.54. A 330 cu ft bottle is $83.11. I guarantee you I can weld a complete chassis and all the components with one 330 cu ft bottle. You guys are wasting a lot of gas.

Well I looked closer and the last two month bills were estimated so that is why it was so high.

I changed the post flow on the tigg to 5 sec. for the al and do not seem to have a problem.
