1 or 2 core Radiator
« on: August 11, 2010, 01:48:12 PM »
Needing to replace my radiator, too small and now has a leak.  Thanks to LS.  So I was going to pick up a 2 core Civic, but some of the Honda car forums have mixed opinons saying that a 1 core could cool better.  Not always.  And that some who went to 4 core saw temps go up 15-20 degrees.  I'm only running a 600 Kawa and the rad is up on side and going to run fan.  Thoughts????
You can keep your CHANGE, I'd like to keep my DOLLAR.

More cores is generally better. As for going to 4 core and having operating temps rise, that could be due to a number of reasons.

IMO more cores Take more air movement to cool due to the higher mass of liquid in the air/heat exchanging area, altho I could be wrong...Pretty much no such thing as a "too large " radiator...As long as you have a thermostat ;D

Good call.

If I believe I cannot do something it makes me incapable of doing it. But when I believe that I can, then I acquire the ability to do it , even if I didn't have it at the beginning.

A two core Civic radiator cooled my 600 2 stroke engine much better than a Civic one core.

These have been collecting dust in my shop for a few years. They could be had.  Look in the latest Jeg's book for what they sold for new.    Would be the rat's a#s for your application. Duel one inch cores 13x22 inches.  It's called a Scirocco Pro Stock.  Would freeze that little motor of yours.

Basically same rad as I have but mine has 1" inlet/outlets.

This thing is made for a big block.  With 1.1/4 on top and 1.5 on the bottom. But would cool a mini real good.  I originally bought it for my short star but got to thinking it mite have been to small for the V6.

Same rad as almost all ProStock draggers use. THey'll keep them plenty cool for staging and a run but not much more. It's plenty big for any bike powered mini to keep cool no matter what.

Don't shoot me for asking, but if I'm using an atv engine, would these small civic radiators be too big - meaning too hard to flow the coolant through something that large or ?   I'm only talking about a 400 cc engine using a small civic rad..        I don't really know anything about the cooling pump or its capabilities on these little engines. ( which is why your reading this )   Thanks for a response

About the best way to see if it would work would be to install the rad leave the cap off and run the thing see if it moves the water! Would be nice if someone already had a go and knew the answer and would share, I myself have never had to do it so I don't know sorry. Hope it helps a little.. :-\

I think the rad may be too large, especially if the motor is not equipped with a thermostat, running too cold will destroy an engine as fast as running too hot
I'd look for a street bike rad...I'll look to see if I have any left or if they all got scrapped on the last cleaning
