Axles keep coming out of CV
« on: April 24, 2009, 08:39:44 PM »
My axles keep coming out of my CVs. I have 930s limited to 20-21 degrees. Can I drill and tap the axle ends and bolt a large washer to the end to keep the axle from pulling out of the CV(seems like an easy fix)? Is there something Im missing or dont have set up right that could be causing this?

Axles are too short. Do they have clip grooves?Do you have too much plunge to use longer axles?

The axles do have clip grooves. New to all this. Not sure what plunge is, how do I measure to see if I have to much?

If there comming out my guess is there too short for the plunge your using. Plunge is how much the axles slides from side to side throughout the travel of the suspension. If you can use the circlip you must do that. I actually dont like to rely on the plunge within the spline but if you need more plunge than the CVs alow then your stuck using that method. My advice is remove the boots and clean the grease to get a better idea on whats going on inside there.

and with the clips installed, jack it up slowly like 1" at a time and see if the axle still moves side to side. when it gets tight you ran out of plunge...

Make sure clips are on the axles then jack car off ground and check for axle plunge.  3/16" to 1/4" free play back and forth is what you need. Also check axle  at shortest length by taking shock off and lifting hub up while moving axle back and forth. Need the same free play. If you need axles I can Help.

Just order stock manufactured ones with slightly longer than needed and remachine them. Highly unlikley you need all 3" of splines on each end.
