I've gone and started thinking again. Ya,I know,bad idea but here goes. Now that there are 3 Yamaha YXZ's sitting around here I just couldn't stop thinking of the no reverse issue we all have building bike motored buggies OR maybe a relatively inexpensive road course/rally type car.
I got to looking at the YXZ trannys. 5 speed sequentials with a real robust reverse gear. HMMMMM I said. 5 speed sequential w/reverse mated to a 5 speed sequential turbo busa. The YXZ trannys have built in torque spike limiters and shift smooth as butter just like the busa tranny. Sort of like the busa /vw091 hybrid I have now but with a much better and lighter trans in place of the 091. Better yet,a REAL flywheel can be incorporated!! Drive shaft connection to the transverse mounted busa just like I have the blue buggy set up already. Again,HHHHHMMMMMMMM???? AND 4 wheel drive could easily be done if wanted.
Now,what 3rd member type diff to use and convert to independent suspension whether by modifying the housing or fabbing a case for the 3rd member. Maybe some small truck or????? Any suggestions?
Seems like a decently economical way to do pretty much what I did with the 091/busa buggy .

Now that puts you to whatever output splines diff used, but there are some upgraded axle units. And plenty of these things running 300hp, and pig heavy.

Personally,I'd shy away from using the yxz diffs. Plenty of history of failures like pushing the pinion out of the case. Yes,that would be a good choice for a road/rally type application but if I were to build a sand/desert/trails car I'd prefer to build something a lot more robust. Same goes for the axles. I believe the trannys are well up to the task though.

personally i have always thought about the mustang 8.8 ind rear diffs. lots of gear ratio options. as deep as 4.56 r&p aftermarket and 3.73 stock.

what would be nice is if on could mate the planetary rev set up out of the jeffco into the nose of that mustang diff. this would mean a new case or removable nose section. now if one made that it would be spot on. the mustang diff has a lot of support on stronger parts for forced induction v8 builds. they sell 930 flanges conversions for this diff too.

I'm not thinking a good idea. Bingo.Any info on how wide it would be?

I wonder if they make reverse rotation R&P's for it IF a person wanted to go AWD ?

now that i don't know. if there is an awd option for the mustang or another model that uses that diff then yes.

now the 2010 to 2014 rear diff looks to be a good option and they offer 4.88 r&p's for them.

I know there are companies in Utah for sure that make stronger racks for the yxz and also the diffs because they are breaking. I cannot say it is from horsepower but from jumping them.

i have actually seen ads for stronger diff housings for the utvs as well. never searched them out but they pop up here and there. not a bad idea all in all .
