Title: 930 CV Boots Empi vs Bates
Post by: fabr on August 08, 2015, 03:35:25 PM
I've had the Empi over the CV boots on this buggy for 4 years now.Running some pretty severe angles @ full droop. Had the cv's out 1/2 trip ago for service and all the boots looked perfect but one has now torn, others still look/feel perfect. I'm going to replace all 4. When I bought these boots I also bought the made in USA Bates boots that the Empi guys copied. It appears to me the Empi boots are more pliable than the (at the time, maybe still for all I know) more highly recommended original made in the USA Bates boots. FWIW,I'm getting 4 more Empi's. I hate to admit it but it appears the knockoffs are better ,at least, they appear to be at steep angles. I think ,IIRC,I have 32 degrees at full droop.

I've been running the cv boots made for the f150 on the 930 cv too.  Prob the same but I get the from Oreilly auto parts, for like $20 w/warrenty!  part#8435

Had one of mine tear that I had picked up from OutFront.  I think shelf life is short on them.

My CV boots have been on the buggy since I built it 10-11 years ago. Got them from Bill at AZ Trans.

The USA made ones seem to be a true rubber but the empis seem to be a tougher compound. Probably not as subject to aging either like some type of rubber like in a tire.
