OK, when we started looking for fall dates, all of Oct was already booked. So next year we need to book early. So start making your plans!!!
So after much deliberations and beer, the date is:
April 26 thru May 3rd
-
WTH,do I need to put in some RV hookups? :m THIS is the reason I bought a house. :nw
-
Yea I love your set up, go any time you want. But you know before the reservations started, it used to be "first one there gets a spot", so we never had an issue, since we always got there early. Oh well, plan ahead, you already have!
-
Ya,it is convenient. I've been down at least 6 times this summer.WAY simpler. Just get in the truck and go.
-
budlight you are correct, we do have to start planning the trips farther out with there reservation system. a private campground would be simpler . fabr could put up outlest but not your you can fit 10 campers there ;D

I down and in, Arrive Sunday and leave Sunday next if my car last that long.

Hey now, don't be blaming me old man. :m I think Mike has that honor. Where did you end up?
-
mike said it was your idea and to blame you. i'm not telling ;D don't want you to know right away where it's coming from rofl
-
had to go look at the map. looks like 632 or is it rofl rofl
-
Looks like I got me a site booked somewhere down yonder in the dunes there somewhere as well yabetcha shit ya know throw it over the fence to the cattle hay.
-
so we'll need a handheld to talk to you ;D
-
Looks like Sand Outlawz is the same week as the spring gathering. I imagine that will put a "kink" in a large group duning fast. Especially trails.
-
Sure will. Trails will be treacherous . Open dunes will be bad enough. Won't be any smooth sand unless the wind blows like a mofo.
On that note I'm going down again 22-23 of this month . Any time the weather looks good I'm going thru the winter.I'm getting my smooth sand fixes in while I can!
-
I know you stay in town, but are you interested in a duning buddy if I come out and camp in the north campground?
-
I'm good with that. If you're good with only 15 amp service you could park at our place. I'll have a 30 amp rv pole hopefully by summer.

i bet wens thurs will still be good riding.

I think it might be fun to see some of the big buggies air it out, maybe Dougie will add more air to the front tires this year :m
-
Well $hit, is that why Cowboy is filled up this far out?
I think I will try and get out there Tuesday morning, hopefully have a couple days of peaceful boosting, the rail isn't ready for the angry end yet :D

Fabr knows what you do to people in their sleep DS..
-
Thanks for the offer. I don't need electricity, though. I am still a redneck. If I was there the same days as you, you could just text/call as you were leaving your house, and I could be waiting outside the gate, engine running. You wouldn't even have to slow down!

well i hope the weather is good and sand is smooth for all of you. wish i could make more trips than i do but 14hr round trip is a bit much for 1 solid day of run time
-
This trip down is a working trip. Storm shelter needs waterproofing repairs and new sump pump. I'll take an hour ride probably. Brian N you might want to hit me up next time. I'll post it up here if I'm going down.

Anyone getin' the giddy dune feelings in the gut yet?
I know I am..
As I look at a list.
Two pages long.
To finish before departure.....
Hell I don't even remember if the car ran when I last put it away?
Random thoughts, carry on.

Ive been getting a little twitch lately, needing the fresh sand in my underwear.
I did fire mine up last week, after having it torn apart for maintenance over the winter.
I feel a budlight virus coming on....

My giddiness started when I had to load my car last September.

I'm almost burnt out on duning to be honest. Now that I have a place at the dunes I wish I had a place near a desert too! Never happy. I hope all goes well at the dyno tomorrow though so big buggy will be happy this time at the dunes. If not,the yxz will have to do.Either way it will be good seeing you all again!

I'm not burnt out with duning so much as from maybe too much duning with a go -kart (yxz) :m. I'll probably have at least 8 more days this year before we all get together.
-
those yxz's look like fun and capable of quite a bit. lacking in tq a bit but still look comfortable and fun. i can see needing a little more bottom end or maybe slightly deeper gears.
-
For duning they need a turbo.
-
Well I’m itching bad and I have sand in my pants daily here. Lol. Car ran when I put away although like shit. I do t miss the mad scramble last spring with my cracked head(new head, head studs, lower comp spacer gaskets, adjustable cam gears all for more boost). And when that thing hit holy shit it was all worth it. Just need more time to tune but I was very happy.
Didn’t want to spend $$$ time energy as we had just moved to beaches of Fla well I was still driving back n forth for work. But knew we’d be out for a yr or more so made it work.
All this to say we make it work, hard work stress late night panic with parts delivery make it work, all for that one perfect ride perfect day, and all that goes away. Enjoy my friends see y’all soon. I’m waiting on pics and videos. I’ll watch em with my feet in sand cold beer in my hand

so get it done already ;D ;D ;) LMAO

+1 .....or deeper gearing depending on the driver :m :m
-
Deeper gearing in the dunes would be useless.

and thats why the rubber band models are so popular. ;D

well she fired off last night. a big thanks to enemy for stopping by and sync'ing the cas system for timing. jacked the rear up and ran it in each gear a few minutes each for a no load break in. did it just to insure oil gets in between each tooth. i do need to adjust the shifter a bit, not a surprise. idles very smooth also has a verrry peppy throttle. cold start up idles at 1200 rpm and advances timing a touch. during cold/high idle the turbo is howling like it's on the verge of lighting ;D i guess having all 4 exh ports sealed to the exh manifold really makes a diff on turbo response rofl rofl the new to me head out flows the old one a bit as well. had to pull some fuel in the idle cells and i do need to say that is not surprising. that doesnt mean i will lose bottom end it just means i should've realized the worsening exh leak sooner and stopped altering the tune based on an 02 sensor that wasn't reading correctly!
-
Brian,
I'm looking forward to seeing all of the progress you've made on the car. I really need to get my suspension dialed now as you will lose me in the trails even easier, not that it was difficult before... kick :m

Are you running your tune in open or closed loop?
-
open loop. i altered the fuel map as it was leaning up. i also used autotune. about the 3rd time ad had to add fuel ins the idle and low load cells i really started to wonder and started looking. the last trip down i knew it was leaking and that i had a safe tune so i ran it. i knew i would be tearing it aparts anyway so why not. closed loop would be nice on 1 hand but i havent had enough tune time to get there.
-

once you get the shocks dialed in......you might be surprised on who shakes who in the trails!
-
old head and cam combo produce 21" vac at idle according to the map sensor. new cam/head combo produces 19.9" vac. now i have a feeling if i advance the cam i can get it back to 21" . i will run this a while before changing as it needs some run time. we are expecting snow again thurs night and sat plus it poured last night. to wet and cold to make any decent runs right now. imo anything over 18" vac is doing pretty good. i also need to run a cold comp test to see if that has changed from previous before making any changes. previous was 195psi weakest and 200 psi strongest.
-
Youbetcha!! If it runs like the Ranger did, it will be quite a rowdy tank! Can't wait to go for a ride!!
The latest beta firmware on the MS3 fixed all the PID issues with closed loop fueling, lots are raving about how well it works now. Not on official release yet, but expected this Spring! I am trying it with my new combo when the fuel tables are finished, but only for cruise and low load stuff, keep the boost stuff open loop for safety reasons.
-
i hope to burn 10 gals ( bare min) through it before the dune trip! closed loop always sounds great. so another interesting fyi....67% ethy = much easier start ups ;D started and ran to operating temp a total of 3 times yesterday. fires up noticeably easier on 67 vs 83% :m
-
I received an email from LS state park, only asking that I bring my own food as to not deplete the local resource, and enjoy my stay.
Cool.
Don't care the situation of this smoke-mirrors, flu/cold/fart season, economy crashing, viral media frenzy social conditioning insane asylum... Social Distance (tm) yourselves into a fetal position in the basement if any like, yall's choice. I finally got a better education to the tune strategy in the rail, and it is getting perky, I will run backroads to the dunes if needed, still going. Fuk I need to go smash throttle...
Ok, rant off.
-
i haven't recieved any emails from oklahoma. i too still plan on going and may go down earlier that expected.
-
my wife just told me she recieved the email today. explains why i
didnt get one ;)
-
btw i can attest to enemys rail running better! a very snappy throttle. mine is tons better but needs some test and tune time. i need time on the sand where i can load it down better than on the pavement back this way.
-
at this point i still plan on being there wens thru frid as normal. how about everyone else?
-
I'll be there Mon-Sat most likely.
-
Still trying to schedule dyno time. I will let you know.
-
loaded but not ready. hooked water up for the 1st time......city water connection behind breaker box leaks. water rolled under wall across tub and pooled up in the bathroom. all cleaned up and have a fan drying it for 24 hrs but i will have to pull that connection apart and see what i can do. worst case i fill the fresh tank and run off the pump.
-
Looks like it was made for that buggie.
-
pulled the city water connection out. it turns out it doesnt leak when its not attached to the camper lol the plastic body is crap. i will have to order a good one that has a brass body. so for now i think i have the leak fixed but prob just need to run off my fresh tank and pump to be safe. if water pressure is as poor as it was on a couple trips i'll be better off doing that anyway lol
i will have to leave a day late as work went crazy with 50 cars vandilized sat and sun. everyone have a safe drive and a fantastic trips. see you all there wensday.
-
also decided to make a safety chain just incase the straps come loose. never know
-
Looks like it was made for that buggie.
it does! a whole lot less room than the fiver for sure but getting comfortable as i get my mods done. no way i could get them all done before the trip. getting parts was tricky with all the shipping delays and plants shut down. the lower angle on the ramps is nice but having a 1st gear makes a huge difference in loaading LMAO
-
I'm limited to short runs on big buggy. Need bigger oil coolers and fans on torque converter. The mofo is a fun ride though. 90 in the whoops with a lot left on trail to North gate. WTF,that's in 3rd gear. What will 5th be in the open desert?? I doubt the rangers will be understanding if caught now. LOL!!!!!!!!

no way the rangers will let you off with a warning anymore rofl i look forward to seeing it run tomorrow.

fast was definately missed for sure. all in all another great trip! fabrs rail ran flawlessly from what i saw. enemyns ran the best it ever has. nice job guys!! mine has more power and performance than it ever has ........until the electrical issues started. i will be replacing my fuse block with a better one and checking a few things. also need to get my manifold sealed and keep the bolts from backing out. big daves rail ran great until the cv incident. allens rail ran good until he blew 2nd gear. brianN......a real shame you couldn't make it as well as budlight69. mike and jerry showed along with a couple friends. had some very strong wind the first day so the sand was dry and the smoothest i have seen it in a long time, until thurs lol. place was packed friday with a lot of everything.
-
it doesnt matter if you havent used a spare part in 2 or 10 years........dont leave it behind LMAO on top of an electrical issue i had a tie rod issue. luckily taylor left a day later so he was kind enough to bring me the spares i have not needed in 7 years. i tried to straighten it but it bent back right out the gate.
-
never got my go pro's out so no video from myself this time. enemy shot some so i guess its up to him to post THE trip video :D i only snapped a couple photos too. forgot chairs as well. a special thanks to fabr for loaning me a chair!
-
Yep ,a great trip all in all. Hoping to see Fast back at it soon!! I must say it was fun finally being able to enjoy the "new" car. Still getting used to it but I did do a few mild wheelies and saw some air time as well. I think someone said enemy got some vid of it. I'd appreciate seeing it if so.
Soooooo,when is the next trip??????
-
i have no idea when the fall trip might be. what i do know is that as soon as my rail is fixed i will be taking a fri or mon off and making a 2 day run. i will post that in case anyone else needs a good excuse LMAO carl that means you too!!!!!
-
big dave.....is the st a trip still a go??????

I have to say no at this time. The covid 9 has had my wifes shop closed for a month and a half. So that has changed thing.

where?
LS dunes
ordered a new fuse block from summit. dropped to the 8 port as i only used 7 out of the current 12 post. new one has a 100 amp max which is almost double what i am drawing through it. enemy has a mechanical oil psi gauge i can borrow to test the oil pressure sensor. i will prob replace the 10g +/- cables from batt to fuse block to 8g to be sure. also jerry got the me the amsoil he uses in his trans that solved heat issue. i asked enemy to order some with his next order.
-
This is what most use in the Fortins/Albins sequential trannys.
https://www.redlineoil.com/heavy-shockproof
Too slippery for a synchronized trans though.
Let me know when you are heading down.

thanks for the info
i had planned on letting you know. this was a huge part of my reasoning for selling the fiver and downgrading to the ss minnow. it pulls damn nice until you catch a head wind at just the right angle. then the rail cover become a parachute and drop my mpg to 7.6 holding 75 mph lol vear right or left and i drop 10 psi and accel. i will have to re think that part.
-
ss minnow :m I like that!!!!
-
when i get caught up i may look at getting some graphics made for the back :m
