Started some tin work
« on: January 21, 2013, 06:16:28 AM »
I have never done any tin work but figured what the hell. The guy who started my stuff ended up being a flake. Started on the hood last night. It was much easier than I thought. I still need to do some finishing touches and mount.

Why did you turn the car on it's side?

;D ;D ;D ;D Looking good. Pretty satisfying to do stuff you never did before and have it turn out like you want it,huh?

I don't know what you used to roll the edges but my favorite is a soft face deadblow hammer. No hammer dings and the aluminum doesn't spring back as much. For dished radiuses I have ground a round face on the deadblow on a couple also.

A deadblow you take to the grinder and make a radiused face.

More progress. Got the hood roughed in and started one of the sides. Just need to cut the passenger side, clean up some rough edges, and mount everything. I am removing the third seat as I only need two and end up babysetting some kid in camp that I dont even know all weekend. I cut a firewall where the rear seat went too, just need to mount it. I still want to do a windshield, finish off the back of the side pannels that were half assed by the jackass who statred my tin and never finished it, and do some sort of cover over the rear compartment where the seat was. I am thinking about doing some sort of weld in fake scoop to make the hood not so plain. I want one that will recess down in the hood flush. Anybody know where to get one?

Did some more work today. Added a fake scoop to the hood and did more work on the rear. Still need to weld the scoop in.

I also tossed the rear 3rd seat. I always end up being a taxi cab for starngers in camp or kids I dont even know. Now I dont need to feel bad for saying no. My last straw was the little kid that puked all over the back seat, harness, engine computer, tool box, and floors. I am either going to cover the rear compartment where the seat was with either tin or a vynil cover.

Looks like a good spot for a small LED light bar. Just thinking.
