What tool to make a rolled edge on tube
« on: October 06, 2011, 09:25:36 PM »
I want to do rolled edges on my radiator tubes, like the ones that come on your radiator from the factory, to prevent them from slipping off. What tool do I need to do this?

They were talking about this on OFN and I seem to recall they had some good ways to do it but at this moment I do not have time to go looking for it but you may.

If you aint been there is layed out pretty good.

How about this for a million dollar idea.....A bead roller just for thin wall tubing that worked like a can opener and used Vise grip pliers for an adjustable base......

Or like a copper tubing cutter where you spin it a couple times and then crank it a little more and spin it again till you get the amount you want.

Rollers would have to be offset over to the side of the slide mechanism.

I saw one where the guy welded an exhaust clamp to a pair of vise grips.

The bent sheet metal part was on one side and the "bolt" was on the other.

The "bolt" radius fit down inside the sheetmetal part when closed.

Basically take the bolt out and flip it over and try to put it back together, then weld to vise grips.

Best I can descibe it,cant find the pics and it did work.

It doesn't get much cheaper than this........Looks like it would work with Aluminum tubing, but not too sure about Stainless.

Bet it works in mild steel and MAYBE in SS as it is a  knockoff/copied Parker fitting tool.

Home made bead roller by VPT post #409.  Looks like it may fit the bill.
