well that day or atleast while they were there lol   he said it was sooo steep or I should say there were 2 or 3 sooo steep they had to pop the front wheels up on the bikes to get on them and the 250 2 strokes were a struggle to get up to the top.  don't know first hand though as I have never been there myself. I would stop on the way back from st A to check it out.

now on a bike I wouldn't want to stall half way up lol

Was doing a lot of info finding about KP. Seems that there is basically zero enforcement there. Approx 10,000 acres. HOWEVER,I have read that there is a lot more territory that is "out of bounds",somewhere around 100,000 acres that people "accidentally" tread upon. Have not seen what the penalty is for being caught out of bounds. There is an area called Steamboat mountain that the BLM closes for a rare elk or antelope (some kind of 4 legged thing) for 3 months ending in late June,IIRC that is. I'm betting it's like thunder mountain in Nevada(?) that rumbles if you pump the brakes as you slowly go down the dune face.  Even mid summer daytime temps are only in the 80's with colder nights since it's at higher altitude.

what I understood is ( and haven't looked to deep into it myself and it looks like fabbr now knows more than I ) is that only the 10k acres are for duning and the others are a national wildlife preserve but with a pipeline or two going through. the wind doesn't stop and I guess that's why they called kp the fastest moving dunes in the US. it still looks like a good place to check out and there are only primitive out houses to use if you fight the critters off for a seat lol lol or so I have been told by a few. when Jeremy and his bunch last went they camped in the parking lot and said it snowed over night in mid june!! he said it was weird cause they would be running the face or top of a dune and would just sink well the sand blew over the snow overnight and early that morning they would drop into a pocket or two. I think he said his gps showed they were over 5800 ft above sea level but don't remember that part to clear anymore.  he did say that there were out of bounds markers here and there but a ways apart so I don't know how they figure that one.  hope we can stop and with no problems. good info fabbr didn't know about the elk/antelope part  and I thought there was about 30k acres but looked to be more on the map just never looked farther.

I gather the nearby locals ignore the markers excdept in the area of Steamboat Mtn area as that's what the BLM is obligated to protect.

One video I was watching said the area was 3 miles wide and 75 miles long. But riding area was just a small part. Looking at satellite views it pretty dang big.

St A looking at sat appears to have 3-4 sand area with large brush between. Not sure about riding in all of them either.

Looks like Wed May 28 - Sun June 1st.   I'd prob show on Tue.  You'll firm the dates, DS & Enemy.

Monday, 26th, is Memorial Day and when they seem to arrive.

And surprising, accord to state campsite reservation, every campsite at Cowboy is avail for week.
