another newbie
« on: January 04, 2009, 06:31:51 AM »
hello all

my name is Andy, this is my first vist here and it sure looks the right  place to hang out if you are into buggys,  l live in the UK right in the middle in Birmingham, l have always had an intrest in all things with an engine, l have biult a few buggys in the past but nothing with a mc engine as they tend to be a bit small or mini and as l am 6'5" l struggle to get in, amongst my toys l have a tripple "e" buggy from your side of the pond, nice little buggy but its a bit of a squeeze for me and l end with my knees tucked up under my chin, l also have a blitz buggy which is a kit really that you assemble you self using austin mini or metro parts nice sturdy buggy but has little axle travle and so tends to suit tarmac or flat fields,
tripple e and the blitz

as l find the tripple e a bit to small l have started biulding a two seater based on a suzuki vitara ( sidekick ? ) l have removed the front axle and will be using it as rear wheel drive only, for power l am using a 4 lt V8 and auto box,  bit more tube work to go  on yet but you can see where l am heading

we dont have "land" like you lucky people over there, no sand dunes for us just muddy fields but at least we have acess to a field close to home where we can have a bit of fun, l also had a fugative  which is no doubt a copy of something you had/have over there

l am also into big stuff and  have a couple of russian trucks that we offroad now and then, heres a couple of pics

l currently have one the  russian trucks ( zils ) stripped right down for an engine transplant, big diesel V8 and auto going in and V8 petrol coming out

sometimes my pal brings his single seat buggy up the field for a fool about, l think you would call a rock crawler over there, biult from scratch using a front wheel drive engine and gear box from a car mouted sideways beside the driver, suzuki sj axles etc weighs just under 600kg

l can post links to biuld up threads on the truck and the rock crawler if anyone is intrested

and finally we still do a bit of quading now and then, but as l get older l find it harder work, and very  cold and wet here in the uk

despite all the different toys l am a buggy man at heart and want to start a new buggy project as soon as l have the 2 seater finished

Andy

hi
the engine is out of a citroen, bx l think, it was only chosen because it
was the lightest engine he could find, everything has been lightened
discs hubs etc all machined down as light as possible
