300m axles
« on: March 27, 2013, 07:36:06 AM »
Where do you guys get axles from?  I have Gear One hubs and need to order my axles soon.  Gear One is way proud of theirs and maybe rightfully so.  I know you get what you pay for, but you guys around here seem to be very good at sourcing parts so I thought I would ask.  Several of the buggy parts houses list them, but just want to be sure I am not buying crap from China.
You smell that?

I needed custom axles and used RCV.

I have 300m Axles.  Not by choice.  Long story.

The upshot is when looking for axles  Bill at AZ Transaxle said use the China stuff.  They have had stupid good luck with them.  Significantly lower in price to boot.   Get a hold of Bill and pick his brain.  My guess is you don't need 300m and the others will be just fine.

Almost all high quality steels are imported from somewhere else. If the supplier is ISO certified you are fine no matter where it comes from. Much lower overhead overseas is the only difference.

What 930 joint are you running?  I'm running chinamoly 930, 28" longest I could find.  Wish I'd gone 30" ones from RCV.  They wern't much more in moly than the china ones, but I'd like to have had the extra width.  FYI, RCV can be slow, plan for that with them.  But I believe their axles come with the same "you break it we replace it" warrenty the cv's do.

I picked up the hubs and CV's from a guy in CA unused.  All are Gear One from looking at the site they are the race prepped and polished ones they sell for 185 ea. and came with a set of the grease flanges for the tranny side.
I plan on ordering extra axles and CV's once I am sure I have the correct length axles.  Not sure what CV's Ill get at that point.

The EMPI axles are surprisingly good pieces. Lots of places to get custom stuff, it just cost more, lots more.
