3.5L Intrepid powered 2 seater
« on: September 27, 2008, 05:22:29 PM »
Ok , does anyone have any pics of this done? I have heard of a couple people building them but havent seen any pics of it done( in a 2 seat car). The 3.5 puts out about 250HP so the HP would be awesome but is it to much weight for such a small car? and would 2.0 air shocks be able to handle the weight?

That 3.5 is a powerfull plant, but at the same time a serious POS...Unreliable....I would say it would need to compare to a v8 car myself, and the airs may be a bit underrated, some 2.5 maybe would do it tho...

I don't know what your motivation for using that particular engine would be but with the capabilities of the ecotec, why would you use anything else for a small two seater?

Most of the mini guys are using belt drive with rpm gearboxes, you could mate one to a vw trans easily tho, just got to buy an adapter plate is all... ;D We all got to have ideas, thats what makes the forums so happening... ;D

Ecotech motors are good for 150hp but any mods and they need to be built up internaly with forged guts. $$$$$$$$$

"GM Racing successively verified that the Ecotec survived happily at 200, 225 and 250 hp over numerous dyno pulls."

whole article...

http://www.turbomagazine.com/features/turp_0203_gm_racing_ecotec_engine/index.html

the expensive part is reaching 250hp.....a set of rods to make you sleep at night is only $350.

let me repeat......I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOUR MOTIVATION FOR USING THE 3.5 IS....

Ive had 2 freinds one with a set of cams and the other with a turbo at 8lbs and both had problems. The turbo spit out a piston and the cams bent a rod both in less than 2 seasons. I have seen articles where peple make over 1000hp with these motors. But the completely redid the bottom end, heads, dry sump and so on. Any motor can make power with the right amount of money its just relialibility that matters to me. My friend and his dad have run 2 stock ecotechs for 4 seasons with just oil changes with no problems at all. how many seasons were those motors from the magazine run??? A motor under load is a whole different story. Still dont go with the 3.5

That was a great article.Clearly shows the potential of the ecotec at extremes.I see it as saying 250 hp is easily attainable for the average guy but specifically for drag racing purposes.I'm not sure it indicates that 250HP would be reliable in a road/offroad application such as a buggy though.

The only motovation i have for using the 3.5 is for the transmission. Cause i dont have the money to fork out for a FNR box. and with the transmission having the outputs on the side of the tranny it just makes it easy. Heres a pic if anyone isnt familiar with what it looks like
