Rick, I look at the pics of your shop and think to myself "sign of a sick mind!".

Why why why is everything sooo clean? Dont you actually do anything there? Is it all done at work and brought home to photograph? aha! I think we have it!

I only bring the camera out when it's clean.  ;D
Right now it is a mess. I won't clean it again until I finish up a side job this weekend.
Maybe I should go out there and take a pic.
Post it up to prove I do use it.

No shit!

Rick I think you should. Maybe it would make us all feel better about our own shops.

Here is my Vertical mill that I have been using for 5 years now. It came with the X&Y DRO, X&Y power feeds, 18" rotorary tabe that still lists for over $2000, indexing head, 6" vice, R8 collets, drill chuck, coolant mister, clamp set, and a quill DRO.

All for $1250, weighs about 3500#

Here is my Monarch 18" Lathe. Came with a KDK tool post and 10 holders (retails for over $1000), X&Z DRO, 3 jaw chuck with changable soft jaws, 4 jaw cusman chuck, coolant system, and other various tooling.

Boss sold it to me for $750. Weighs over 6000# I also had it perfectly leveled and aligned where it sits. I can take .250 per side on 4140 steel with a feed rate of .012 per rev in one pass. Scary what it will do to aluminum, Any of these machines will tear limbs from your body if you dont respect them.

Last big machine I have is my Kearny Trecker No2. Horizontal. I use my 18" rotoray on this with a 8" vice for tube notching. Very sturdy machine and it too is hairy scary! Came with the 8" vice, coolant system, 10 piece CAT50 tool holder set, and a X&Y DRO.

Paid $500 to my boss foir this machine.

I say stay away from bench top mills. Even a good bench top new is about $2500. Unless your cutting small aluminum or plastic parts, keep shopping around!

Additionally those last 2 machines pics were taken during install so it does not show the DROs and final set up.

That 12x36 is similar to my Craftex gear head lathe i put in my home shop, not a bad little lathe for what it is and very versatile with a 15 inch swing with the gap out.
Definitely worth the money for a home shop for sure!!

No just clean for the move. I do like to keep my shop clean as well. Like you I feel like I slip up and cant get my head straight in a messy shop. It was getting pretty bad last week. Making A-arms. Alot of grinding, notching and grinding. I had to stop and clean this past tues. Now I feel like I can get somthing done again.

Oh and I also need to add a few machines to my list that I almost forgot about. I bought the Peerless band saw seen in my machining video with the roll conveyor for $500. I dont have room so it sits in storage in my mom's cabinet shop. I also have a chevalier tool grinder I picked up for $50 that sits in the corner. It can also be used as a surface grinder.

Rick lets ee a pic of your dirty shop. Ill post one of mine too!

A drill press uses bearings not meant for side load and with a mill you will get more side pressure than a hole saw. I actually use hole saws in my horizontal as well for certain applications.
