Well the plan is to take it fairly easy till Saturday and then give it hell till it breaks or till time to leave.This will likely turn out to be it's maiden voyage so I don't wanna break too soon.

those pictures are exactly what the inside of my s-10 cv's look like, except mine are the entire cup too.. but same deal inside.. mine are also fixed on the outboard side.  good for 45*, the other worthless tripod end wont run that 45* angle though.

So far as I know all steering cv's are non plunge and will be made similar.

The races in the 930 joints angled from inside to outside, they are straight line though, not curved around a single fixed pivot point. That also contributes to the heat. When a fixed joint is running at a 40 degree angle, the balls are rotating in a circle at 20 degrees to the outer race, 20 degrees to the inner race. In a plunging joint, the ball are traveling in and ellipse. They are close to the center on the front and back of the shaft when the shaft is angled down. They are farther from the shaft at the top and bottom. So the total movement of the balls is greater.

The axle can slide IN the star and the star itself also will plunge in and out a bit.
