New LIL MONSTER build!

Well, I am sure you all saw the new toy in my other posts, but I am finally getting started on the build, this afternoon I got the seats out, carpet pulled out for welding, designed a basic layout for the rear coilover mounts and got the rear cage bars installed, (somebody cut them out previously for some stupid reason) oh, and I got the lower door bars cut and fish mouthed. I got a bunch of toys in the mail yesterday and today too, got my disk brakes, stub axles, 930 cups for the trans, and THE COILOVERS! WHOOHOO, I was not expecting them for like two more weeks, this really helps out for the time line as its REALLY tight being how I have never built a Baja before, but I think I'll be ok, the only part that really worries me is the wiring harness for the stock computer on the engine....thats all for today but I'll be hard at it tomorrow and the next day so I will update as time permits! Got a bit more done, got the lower door bars welded in, and the trans and drive shafts out of the back and cleaned up the rear horns to get em ready for paint, lotsa greaseys! Gonna do some more today!!

Well, I got some more done today, tired but got it figured out I think....

Well, got the forward trans mount done, got all 4 gears and reverse clean! I know its not welded all the way, I'll do that when it comes out for paint..I think I will gusset the stock mount to the pan as well..

You will need to support the front mount at the point where it attaches to the transmission or it will pull the sheet metal mount off of the car.  It will have to much up and down movement and or leverage.   You'll need to bring a support mount out from the horns over to a point that intersex the front of the trans.   Been there done that.

Looks like your making some progress on this thing.  Did it not have a VW motor/trans in it before, or is that a weak link of the stock setup?  Just curious why your haveing to redo the mounts or are you just tying it all into the cage?

Well, I have to move the engine/trans back for the new rear trailing arms that are 5" longer and wider. I am also trying to tie it all together to make it stronger for the dunes/desert punishment. But yes, it had a VW before, but I am installing the EcoTec and it required the stronger trans which moved things around a bit too...

OK, starting to get some REAL progress now, I got my trailing arm kit in from Blind Chicken Racing and it is a pretty simple build really, I just had to get a decent sized piece of plate steel for the Jig. There was little fitment so far and it seems will be quite easy for the rest of the way, I got the jig built and got a few pieces tacked together so tomorrow I figure I should at least get one done, maybe two but not likely as I need to go slow with the welding so it doesn't turn into a pretzel!

I hope so!! I am trying, see I just needed to get a project that I HAD to get done in order to have something to drive for the season, before it was too easy to just slack off!! Plus it will be twice as cool with this one cuz I can drive it on the street!!

For sure! Its gonna liik a bit funny though with +5 in the rear and stock in front but oh well!!
