E98
« on: August 25, 2016, 09:59:42 AM »
Due to the crappy consistency of pump e85 I decided to source some E98 and blend quality e85 from it. Found a source that will supply 55 gal drums @ $5.09 a gallon shipping included. Hell of a lot cheaper than race gas.

Since your going ahead with FI on motor, what about one of the flex sensors and let it adjust?  Or can it not handshake and get along.

It " CAN" but it isn't that good an idea on a high horsey motor,IMO.   I don't wish to chance it with less than 85% with the compression I'm running and e98 by itself is really, really finicky. The power diff between 85 and 98 is pretty negligible if not looking for those last few ponies.

considering the shipping cost and the barrels that is a good price!

I thought it was great considering it will be as fresh as it gets. The drums will be filled tomorrow right out of the tap. 1 year guaranteed not to degrade at all. After that, they say up to 3 years storage but it will begin to degrade after a year.

At what point do you have to flush and pickle for storage?

Never comes to mind.My entire fuel system is ethanol proof. Everything in it is made for it. PEX bladder in tank, teflon inner fuel lines and alky rated regulator/pumps/injectors.

Lubricate? Or will the mix fuel have some in it?

I may get proven wrong but IMO,it is not needed if the system is designed for it. I'm not going to run the e98 straight. It will be blended with good unleaded to bring it down to true e85 so I can have consistent fuel unlike the widely varying pump e85. I just will not chance an expensive motor with pump e85(my local only tested to 65% last week, never have seen it over 75%).

You aren't quite getting it. I will add 9.75 gallons of pump ,ethanol free ,unleaded to 55 gallons of e98. That equals e85. Home brew? I don't see that as home brewing anything. Why do you see it as home brew? MANY racers do what I'm doing. I'm also assured I have fresh product unlike sunoco or VP alky. WHat I'm getting is literally right from the distillers tap as it is produced. That guarantees a full year ,at least, of having good fuel . Other sources are not guaranteeing anything . Lots of it may have been sitting in a warehouse for many months. I'm making the best choice for my needs of both high quality and money considerations.  Doing as I am almost guarantees me I will not have phase separation issues that causes almost all of the corrosion problems people have with alky.

Where you going to find pump that is ethanol free? Maybe in Kansas but not here in the west.  You are adding 9.75 gallons of trouble is my guess?  If you cut with 9.75 of race, what is the cost?

BTW, Kansas does not require ethanol labeling below 15%.

You can guess all day long but you would be wrong. Yes ,we have pure gas at many pumps around here. I use it in all my air cooled motors and the generators. No ethanol issues at all. IF we did not have ethanol free available here I would use one of the unleaded, non oxygenated(no ethanol) VP or Sunoco offerings but that is not needed at all. You seem to think I am trying to do something unusual. I am not in the least. This is commonly done by racers . I'll guarantee you this much,VP and Sunoco are not using high quality unleaded to make their e85.

Not worried about lube issues.
