turbo boost reading???
« on: August 07, 2010, 08:30:10 AM »
I just put the boost guage in my buggy and do net get a boost reading until about 7500 rpms. I should put out 15 lbs. My initial thinking is I should be getting 8 lbs or so at 5000-6000 rpms and climb from there to 15 lbs. I know I will have to adjust the wastegate and my manual boost controler in the cockpit. So should I be seeing some boost at lower rpms or do I not understand turbos at all?

There's lots of reasons why you may not show any boost till 7500. Post some pics and give us some details of your setup. . Till we know more we'd just be shooting in the dark.

If I were just guessing tho I'd say you either have leaks or too large a turbo for your application.

It is the factory turbo for the weber, so the application is correct. What I need to know right now is, at what rpm SHOULD I be seeing boost. I can start to figure it out from there before I bother all of you with why. I am turbo ignorant so just looking for the scoop when I should start to see boost. More than likely I have over tightened the line from the intake to the guage, if I had to guess at the first place to start.

No that does not mean the turbo is correct. Do you KNOW it was making boost at lower rpm or was it just SUPPOSED to?Was the turbo sized for your ENGINE? Turbos are not sized for a carb.

There is no way to say where you SHOULD see boost. Only where you WANT to see it.

What engine? What Turbo?  How big is the exhaust tubing? Give us and AR factor? Like Master said turbo's are not matched to a carburetor.  They are matched to what a motor will put out in heat. What's the waste gate set at?  What is the BOV set at?  How many inches of vacuum do you pull at idle and when you snap the throttle shut?

If I believe I cannot do something it makes me incapable of doing it. But when I believe that I can, then I acquire the ability to do it , even if I didn't have it at the beginning.

You should be seeing 10 or 12 long before 3500 RPM with anything even a Briggs and straton.

IF the turbo is sized correctly that is. Ya can't just grab a turbo/carb off a different engine and have miracles happen.

It does mean it is the correct set up!!!!!!! It is a weber factory kit. Warrantied by Weber and in thousands of vehicles all over the world. I do not want to get into a pissing match with you. I have seen the threads go on and on and on with back and forth. Just because I say I am turbo ignorant does not mean I am ignorant in general Masterfbr. It is  fuel injected motor not carb. It is a simple question, with a correct optimum set up WHEN SHOULD I START TO MAKE BOOST AND SEE IT ON MY GUAGE. If you do not know just leave it for someone else to respond. I appreciate all your input in the past but people get tired of reading a thread when it is back and forth. Do you or have you ever had a turbo?

When he said his turbo is the factory app for the Weber, he was taking about his Weber  engine, not a Weber carb.
