 rofl nope  rofl

so i just booked site 624. only 2 sites left, i just informed enemy and allan.  i thought the res site was shit to begin with but they found a way to make it worse! wth is wrong with those people! plus they raised the rates to $32 during the week and $36 on weekends. no dump station and they have gone from $20 per night and $7 per driver at the gate to $32 and $10 per person. talk about making money hand over fist!

i tell you what.....at the new rates and no dump station on the north side......the private campgrounds are starting to look very appealing! seriously they fook up the res site again, charge you weekend rates for fridays, inform you that if you do not show by noon the day the following day of scheduled arrival that you forfeit your reservation with now refund! you cannot control mechanical failure or an act of god. if you pay for the site then it's your or that is theft!  so basically it went from $60 for 3 nights to $102 and went from $21 in gate fees to $60.  from $81 to $162 for 3 days!

ok done with my rant

And you guys think I'm silly buying a place in town. Worth every penny to not have to deal with IF there will be a spot available whenever I please.

I'll be there for the fall trip.  The boss lady said I was cleared for it again.  Apparently I've been a good husband yet again. 😉🤙

I'm just not sure where I'm going to stay. I would have no issues sleeping in the SUV, as long as I've got a parking spot.

enemy had told me i bottomed out a couple time pulling wheelies out the gate. i know i did once as i felt that but didnt feel any others. this isnt surprising as i rarely feel it when i do. i say that as my wife has told me several times over the last few years that she has felt it. well i have never seen a bend in my skid plate so i never thought to much about it. the skid plate has a damn nice curve to it now  ;D and i have a crack in my frame. i guess it has taken its toll after a few years. easy enough to fix and reincorce. i'll add 5ccns more oil to the shock and hopefully stop the bottoming out. might even re valve them 1/2 step slower as well. for now i need to fix the exhaust and replace my shifter cables. i forgot about those and never ordered them.

Are you sure it's cracking from wheelies?  It seems like during a wheelie, the skid plate is pushing up, putting that member in compression?  Just a question, trying to always learn more.  And I got my M/H figured out, it needs a new transmission control module, damn.
Title: Re: LS fall trip Oct 13-18 2020 year of the chinese flu
Post by: dsrace on June 08, 2020, 02:19:09 PM
no from wheelies per say. its a combination of loads that has led to the crack in my case the crack is on the outside of the tube spreading around. it happened to be at an intersections so more brittle there from combined heat. most dont know but my right rear wheel flexes just enough in the wheel bearing that it pushes my brake pads back. this only happens during the hard trail runs. i of course turn left mor than  right so i side load that wheel quite a bit. during the wheelies off the first hill out the gate. i bottomed out at the base as i hit it dead on straight at to high of a rate of speed. i do not have external/internal by pass shocks aiding the primaries or that prob wouldn't ave happened. when i hit it was hard enough to bend my skid plate for the first time since installed. how do i know? i change te oil after every trip. so if you look at the pic of the crack again. notice thats my upper a arm connection point. imagine the different loads being applied to that point

well thats an interesting thought......hmmmm    lol ya it has a noticable extra few ponies  ;D   dead stop take if a very noticable difference. thats odd too cause the new cam usually trades bottom end for top end.  i am definately loading everything a tiny , smidgen , minute amount more. LMAO

so enemy can add more infor than i can. they claim the head/cam combo is a bolt on 75 hp bump. this is with proper tuning of course and proper installation. i must have got it right  :D cause turned down 10 psi to only 20, it sure feels like i ave all the top end i had at 30 psi. def more bottome end and i say that from a dead stop take off in 2nd gear.  i am def impressed with the combo for sure.
Title: Re: LS fall trip Oct 13-18 2020 year of the chinese flu
Post by: fabr on June 10, 2020, 07:20:09 AM
with the previous super leaking exhaust flange and all the o2 coming in screwing up your previous combo didn't stand a chance of running right. Then it went to leaking again with the new combo. I assume you have it sealed up tight now tho. I bet you the tune is really coming around now.

Post by: dsrace on June 10, 2020, 11:42:10 AM
to behonest, after re tightening at the dunes it hasnt leaked again. i have better wrenches at home to really tighten it better. have not done anything with the tune since. i tried to tap the sand out of my keyboard the last day at the dunes. i forgot the screen detaches so ....ya ....it hit the floor and crushed the screen. i have 2 more lap tops as back ups lol. not the 1st time i dropped a lap top, infact its the 2nd time.  the first exh manifold i had never leaked and never came up loose. i do not know why this one has and i am using the same bolts. i know it was warped when he welded it but i had it surfaced before this trip. so i will get that taken care of for sure. it still doesnt leak as bad as before. you can def tell a diff when its tight  LMAO

so i spent 2 solid days working on various areas of my rail. been putting off a few things so the weekend was  a good time to get all the boxes checked off lol i need to order the switch to program my fuel gauge but other then that.....

i noticed a crack in my frame while i had the exh off repairing it. so i V'd the  crack and welded it then over welded it as i did the opposite side. i do not know why i did that on the drivers side but it has not cracked so ...ya.   i added a gusset to the pass side as well as it had to be flexing outward to crack in that manner.

i decided to re align the rear end as i havent done it since i bolted it together for the first time. ya ya i dont practice what i preech lol   it had developed an additional 1* neg camber and 3\8" toe in. 1 turn of the heim set camber back to -.5* and 1\2 turn to set toe.

changed my cv boot.....i hate cv's !   the tear was on the peak but its at a diaganol , sort of. must have been when i missed a couple turns in the trails and made new ones. i can see that the bellows are rubbing on one another and leaving a groove.

swapped the fuse block out and swapped 10g wires to 6g wires. i still need to order shifter cables.  zipped up a bunch of small things as well.

what brands and number of bellow boots is everyone running?

I run genuine Bates 930(NOT copies) over the cv boots. I got mine from Kartek. So far I have not had a failure in approx 10 years. I still have the spares I bought at the same time and have been thinking of putting them on for the last few years. :m

;)   had one in my hand before the spring trip. wasnt sure what i thought about it. didnt look like it would rub but they were a pretty stiff boot. my issue this last trip may have been something in the weeds and bushes i drove through when i could make a turn in the trails. that happened twice. the last 3 were because the drive flange at the trans had a pin hole in the spline seal, venting trans case heat into the boot. i used clamps on both ends do they sealed and no release. that one balooned up like a baloon!  still a better quality of material would be better. i have 7 more moog before i swap lol

So this fall trip is a GO!!

I know its late...lol.  So in regards to camping, I will have my truck, trailer and a tent.  Is this something I can put up on someones lot?  Obviously I will pay whatever, or would it be easier to just get a primitive site..as long as I can plug my coffee pot in on someones lot.  HAA.

I really am looking forward to this trip!!

so at this point i am at the far end site 624 i think. enemy doesnt have a spot for fri night so if no one on that end can squeeze him in then he may squeeze in with myself.  i am sure the rest of the group down on that end can squeeze you in. if not res a primitive site and plug your coffee pot in acrross the road.  at the rate the temps are dropping you might have to bunk with grimm anyway  ;D

other than the rain it's been great here. Spent a few days @ LS last week and going back Wednesday. I did get hit leaving north gate after dark last week by some jackass that thought his 1/2 was down the middle of the whoops entering the dunes. Jackass. I bet he didn't expect to hit a tank!  :m SOB didn't even stop.  I just had a bent beadlock ring but I bet the RZR didn't fare so well.  ;D 8) And you guys may wonder why I rarely go out at night. All the dickheads come out after sundown. At almost the same time another buggy(a friend of the wifes kid) got clipped enough to completely rip off the left rear suspension by a big white 4 seater. That dickhead just ran as well. He had to have had damage also . The rangers are "investigating". I think I know the buggy as a regular @ LS. I'm going to do some snooping when there this coming end of week.

Night duning is so much fun!  Especially when you have a really nice line going.  Also jumping is SUPER crazy at night too!
If you have to drink before (during) you dune, you aren't doing it right!
We had our annual "night run" up here in the mitten...basically the last weekend the dunes are open until 10pm.  we get an hour and a half of pure darkness.  Kinda cool.

I'm getting a tool and part list to get ready for the trip!

Night rides can be a blast, or you can really mess up and it takes forever to get everyone back in one or two pieces.  This happened one late night and for the life of us, we couldn't find sand highway to get back to the big dunes, then back to camp.  But looking back, we still had a blast!

To my defense, Silver Lake is so small, you can go around it in 6 min.  LOL!  Pretty easy to know where you are at. On Friday night, there was maybe 10 people on the dunes after dark and 7 of them were in our group.  I can see the big dunes being pretty dangerous at night.  If I do go out at night, it would be to a certain area to maybe jump a couple times.
The sunset runs are nice.

i have a suspicion that the trip may be a little on the cool side. thats fine with me but will make for some chilly night rdes. winter seems to be coming early and makes sense with the sun in a cooling trend.

Thursday night sounds good to me. I'll be bringing some 24 hour smoked BBQ beans, and I'll ask my wife to make a dessert.

Justin, I'll bring my 1/8 scale Tekno buggy. I think I even have some paddles for it somewhere.

The kids and I are camping in the toy hauler for the first time tonight. Looking forward to bringing it down to the dunes.

I only hit the sand 2 times. Once on Saturday when the sand had so many fleas you couldn't find a free spot to scratch. Today  was really fun though. 99% of the fleas were gone.

My buggy is 99 percent together. But everyone know how new builds are, a leak here and a short wire there and all of the little fires you have to put out.

Allen is the king of roost in our group for sure. speaking of Allen,I left my cams at LS. Dumb ass. What's hard to believe is that Replay had far better vid quality and sound than gopro for all that time yet still went out of business. Had Replay not used Apple QuickTime vid software I believe they would have easily won the war with gopro.

Baddass vids!! Gps speed can't keep up with a busa ;D Twice now I got to see Lance and Glenn roost Brian with wet sand bolders.

I cant get sound to work on my Replay, and didn't even get it out of the bag. It is a great picture for sure, but sure does piss a guy off with the interface! My journey home involved another tire change on the trailer, the spare I put on when I got to LS went off with full earth shaking glory north of Wilson KS. Guy behind me pulled over and with an eye wide open smile said "Ya lost a trailer tire back there!"
I said "Ya felt that too!!??"
He said it looked like I hit a mine the way the trailer tilted lol.. Never a dull moment!
Just like the entire trip!, had a blast with you all like always!!

The ONLY picture I took..
sent from my Lg VGX7600 flip phone with dual squirrel cage processors.

All 4 of my replays still work like new. Too bad Apple quicktime is a thing of the past now and it takes a long time to convert the files. I don't know if I can edit anything now either. I hadn't used them for over 3 years and was surprised the batteries still work like new as well. I guess when I head back down in a couple weeks I will see if I can edit and post.  I just hate to go to gopro and the big ass unnecessary size of the damn things but it appears that they now have good lenses and sound. If I can edit my replay files I'll just use them till they die. 1080 is pretty good but of course,4 or 5K like the hero9 is a LOT better.

Did you buy from gopro to hopefully get one with the fixes already done? Have they come out with a remote control yet? For around 500 bux I'll wait for all the whistles and bells to be integrated. I do believe I'll buy one in a few months after they get all the upgrades done. The 2.7 /4/5K makes for some killer vid quality compared to 1080 and they seem to have gotten the fisheye out. I wonder about the extra wide angle of big lens that is an option having the fisheye though.

The replaceable lens is a nice touch finally. No need for a separate case unless you are deep diving and need the extra 150 deep waterproof rating.

i dont know about a remote but you can pair your smart phone and control it that way.  i am not sure about new updates but we will see. saw bad reviews on hero 8 and one was no replacement lens! need the lens and no case as that distorts the pic. they do not yet have them in stock but do offer the wider angle lens. so my wife caught a special they had so she got it bought for $299 with shipping. need to get there tri pod mount to bolt it to my roof. i will need to buy a few replacement lens as well. did you see the frame rate at 2.7k??!! amazing but the horizon lock was the feature i really liked.

We owe it to him to keep the tradition going for as long as possible. We need to try and expand our group as well. I am starting to seek out some new people that I know of from around here. I hope they will join in.

Now for some carnage pictures.
That Funco car was pretty bad ass.  HOWEVER they seem to be built pretty weak.
Very glad to be able to patch up my car to continue to run.  Thanks to everyone for the help!

That poor Fukno wadded up like a piece of paper. Nothing a new well, almost everything, won't fix.

who wouldnve guessed the funco was built that way. or atleast i thought they were built stronger for the price tag.

Almost every sand car there is is under built.  IMO that is. Way too much concern for making it light instead of sturdy. SXS's are the same way.

mine is 1960 lbs . cage needs more support but i dont worry about the frame. now i could rip a few components off here and there. hit and even up rooted a few trees over the years and never ripped a part of the rail off.  still, i would've thought the funco was built a little stronger.
