Title: cv clocking??

ok so ive disassembled my cv axles many times and paid no attention when putting them back together.. now im wondering if they need to be "clocked" to each other..  but its a tripod on one end and a fixed cv on the other.. i CANNOT find anything on google about clocking those types..only 930cvs and such.   any info would help!! thanks.

The fixed joint is the one that needs clocking if you are taking the angles near the limit. Since the fixed joint can handle far more than the tripod, it should be no where near the limit and clocking would not be needed. If there was some advantage, it would probably be one of 2 different ways, with the tripods aligned with 3 balls or aligned with 3 spots between balls. Now I know the spot behind the balls is the kooch, but I don't know the name of the area between.

thanks yummi, but ive read that article and i dont remember seeing anything about tripod cv axles.

So, i did some more digging.  This is as close as i can find.  Now, looking at it all, how could you clock a tri pod joint?   Not to be stupid, and I know I am about most things, but seriously, I don't think you can clock a tri pod joint.

well it has a tripod on one side and a fixed cv on the other...  my question was do i need to clock the fixed joint to the tripod joint, so that they are in a certain orientation to each other...

Tripods like CV's are constant velocity. They do not need to be clocked........

Actually cv's need clocking to get max angle. IMO tho,if you gotta clock them you're running to much angle in the first place.

CV's do not need to be clocked. Ever. There will be no gain in angle. There will be no gain or loss in wear. Even mixing plunging with non-plunging makes no differance.

I've never personally checked it out one way or the other. All I know for sure is that I do not do it.  ;D

I never did in the past but the last severail years I always do. it will run either way and might not make a difference but for a free peace of mind its worth it
