After the fear of getting a ticket for running race fuel I have been thinking about doing water methanol injection. It will cool the motor down and I will no longer need race fuel. Any thoughts?
-
Race fuel isn't legal but Methanol is? rofl rofl rofl Calipornia eyes
-
ETA: it is very corrosive. If you let the motor sit without purging the Methanol or spraying wd-40 or equivalent down it, it will rust up shortly.
-
Its only windshield wiper fluid. Just cleaning the windshield inside the motor. rofl

All you Kallie people need to think about going E85 at the pump. Re map and bigger injectors and your good to go. They are even going to let them put in more alcohol now. John at Outfront and Quirt at Crawford Proformas are saying that they can get lots of HP from the E85. It will take more fuel like running straight alky but E85 at the pump here is only $2.85 a Gal.
-
But it takes approx 2 times as much per HP.
-
AS for the small amount that is injected into the intake stream to stop detonation, there is no worry about the cylinders rusting or anything internal being unhappy. THe injection only occurs under boost so any alky in the cylinder is gone way before shutoff of the engine. No fear of rust, very UNLIKE running e85 would be.
-
Fast, know why they only want E85 max? So the cars will actually start reliably in cooler weather. Alky does not like to burn well in a cold engine sooooooo....... 15% gas/85%max to aid in that area. I have a buddy with a '08 GMC truck that his check engine light keeps coming on. It started immediately after a fill up and did/has/not gone away even after repeated resets and a couple of different tanks of gas. Know what the code was for? High alky content detected in the fuel. There is still enough of something in it to keep tripping the code. BS.

Last night it didn't say water.... I thought we were talking:

Uh,yup, better spray down the cylinders when shutting the engine down in that case.
-
I thought about converting to E85 but was trying to avoid all the fuel system upgrades and computer tuning. I also only have a 10 gal tank so I would need to build a bigger tank too.
-
After some respnoses I figured I needed to be more clear about what I meant.

What is the PO PO doing just stopping every one and sniffing your tial pipes? That's bs1 I'll be running C12 when I come out New Year's. What's the fine? I'll pay the fine to save the engine. I'm like you I only have a ten gallon tank and I already use seven of it when I play at Butter Cup or cruze sand hiway.
-
sniffing your tial pipes?
LMAO rofl rofl rofl LMAO
So if I'm burning E85 and burn twice the fuel its still better?? bs1
-
They are dipping into your tank and testing for lead. When I run sonoco 112 you can hardly smell it . Sp1 on the other hand smells great
-
I'm going to do something silly here and assume you mean a water-methanol mix sprayed into the inlet manifold?
If so, go go go!
Do it do it do it do it do it!
It's like inter-cooling for an N/A engine. In-cylinder temps go down, wind in more advance, power goes up.
Who in the hell doesn't want MORE POWER?!? ;D
Edit: Are you running forced induction? If so DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT!! :D
-
Just don't run out of water in the middle of the dunes is all. Only real negative.
-
Level gauge with a low warning light for the two gallon mix tank should solve that problem.
-
SHOULD is the key .
-
On steeps and such the tank needs to be very well designed also to prevent any possibility of the pump sucking air also.
-
It's pretty much just a smaller fuel tank. Make it tall and skinny, with the outlet at the bottom (of course!).
-
Its a turbo 2.0 subaru running 17lbs of boost.

After a good talk with the dyno shop who tuned the motor I have decided to go back to avgas. I know I know.... we had a whole thread about it but worst case is I blow up a $500 long block. The motor was tuned for it and it ran on it for 3 seasons before I owned it. The price is MUCH cheaper than race fuel and its unleaded. $11.50/gal for unleaded race fuel or $3.50/gal for unleaded avgas. So if you boil it down:
-The motor was set up for avgas
-Dont need to spend extra for a water methanol system
-Dont need to spend anything to retune and upgrade for E85
-And fuel cost goes down
Either the water/methanol or the e85 conversion will cost more than $500 without a question. I might have no issues with the avgas for free. Seems like a no brainer to me.

17 LB of boost! Wow what kind of HP you running with that? Who is your tuner and what ignition are you running? I would love to run stright avgas. I can buy it all day long at the Dead Cow Airport in wichita.
-
Which AVgas are you running? The blue low lead?
-
I put 268hp to the tires. The dyno shop in san diego did the tune. And it has stock subie coils

AvGas is low lead, not no lead. So if your goal is to not get busted, you may still have an issue. A pilot told me when he pulls the spark plugs on his plane that face down, poppy seed sized lead balls fall out.

what were they thinking!! lol not a good way to sell tickets! lol!!

The Dead Cow is one of the oldest landing fields in the Wichita area. It is right down town. If your driving on Pawnee Ave and a plane comes in for a landing your going to have wheel marks on top of your roof. It will only except small air craft. No jets. That's where the old twin engine airforce one came from they towed up to the Yard Store.

LOL! I never heard of it before.
