Have you?

but something else also, isn't an American at all.  We have room for but one
flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is
the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a
loyalty to the American people."

Why do you answer my question with a question? A simple yes or no will do.
How much is this huge expense? If I had priced it out myself why would I be asking you?

LOL!!! You work at a place that makes extrusions that are that large. Ask them how cost effective a set of dies for a small run would be. I think you know the answer.

I'll check into it. I've always been led to believe that it was pretty reasonable.
We're constantly having new shapes made. Some of this R & D just ends up being scrap.
I work in design, not estimating. I really have no idea.

mmm been thinking of Rick extrusion idea. Every case I have seen on here is different. Dimensions, mountings etc. Is that cause we didnt have an extrusion to use? Could I have made mine to suit what ever extrusion was available (the basic dimensions dont alter that much). My guess i syes. Had an extrusion been available I could probably have used it.

Would I have used it? Probably not. My experience here is about the journey, the end (actual racing) is not something I have ever been outstanding at, ok but not great. I enjoy the racing BUT I enjoy the journey, so I would still have enjoyed the extreme satisfaction of creating this beast.

Up date on progress, damn some suppliers are mongrels!

Side plates were promised 14 days ago, still not here (just the stock, im making them myself). Have ordered t6 6061 sheet but they are having trouble getting it but have continually lied to me about it. Im upping the thickness and using normal aluminium sheet at 6mm which is available here in town.

The cv drives/bearing mounts are made (they are 6061, bar was easier to get than sheet) and am turning up the bearing carriers next week. Input shaft is made and splined, actually this is a recycled spider gear from a bus box (masterfabs ears prick up), it was very hard steel which had the temper removed, machined and retempered.

This is the splined shaft that sticks out the side of the box for the cv drive to fit on. Therefore have machined down the cv drive hub to use as the sprocket mount.

Result was superb (german) steel, already splined and cheap! Have a few laying around.

This final drive will have cost me about $450 Aussie dollars when its bolted into the rear end of the beast.

Just as an aside, instead of using "through" bolts for all the 6mm side plate bolts, I used 25mm bolts and drilled and helicoiled the aluminium (thread insert, dont knwo what you guys call them), the three 12mm mount bolts are "through" bolts.

All fasteners are stainless steel, the housing is painted white and the sideplates are to be polished and lacquered (like to anodize them but that service is a long way from here, did  mention I live in the middle of no where?).

This unit has held the rear suspension up soem and once its bolted in I can get that finished. Mating this to a set of Jmar hubs I have in stock, niiiiccceee stuff.

Cheers

Thanx Mast, however, if you refering to the T6 6061 cv hubs, I have to admit to going shopping for those (although I did shorten them by 25mm).

I was chucking up a lump of bright steel and looking forward (not) to manually turning it into a cv flange/bearing mount when I thought "someone MUST sell these". Yep Edge products here in Oz do. On the phone, couple of days later two landed on my doorstep. Nice quality, im happy!
