Title: Fall Gathering Oct 23-29 2022 Final Decision
Post by: DeepBusch69 on May 09, 2022, 08:02:15 AM
Looking at dates for a fall trip, we are already way behind.  October dates are as follows:  4-8 has 3 spots.  11 - 15 has zero.  18-22 has zero.  25 thru 29 has 10.

there other camp grounds. with the ever increasing popularity of cowboy, the day may come when we have to stay somewhere else.

Nothing wrong with dueces. Full hookups . Trail to north gate is better than in the past. Raised speed limit has helped.

I'll see if I can get a spot at my usual campground 😁😁

I have no dog in this but if I did there would be no way I'd consider that overcrowded place. Much nicer than in past but still too busy/noisy/late at night.

I know you guys bitch about the trail being rough yet you hit the choppy ass dunes without a care. 😂 Dueces is quiet at night and the few minutes it takes to get to the gate is just right to have the engine and trans warmed up just right. I hate going out with a cold or near cold car and hammering it.

we used to camp on the south side. did so for several years but it got crazy over there. i understand people want to party. i understand kids will get loud, drunk and stupid, i even expect to see some passed out face down in the sand burs on the sout side. the dangerous drivers in camp, poop over towering the toilet seat in the public bathroom plus the quads that tried to out run the rangers and the drunk that T boned a truck and tried to drive off........that was the last time i stayed on the south side.  where it is possible......i'm really not sure what could ever convince me to give it another try when dueces is much closer to the north gate.

the only thing that bothered me at dueces was the 5 am to 5:3p am train horn! the trail is no big deal unless you have to tow someone back.  full hook up and enough room for all is a major plus imo. now i understand it can get dusty over there. i have never experienced that as the only time we stayed there it misted off and on half the trip. i can see the problem though.

We've gotten used to the train horn. Really don't even notice it now. House is just about as close as Dueces is to it. I will say though they don't blow it looooonnnnnggggg and as obnoxious as in the past. The RR has gotten a bit more considerate.

We have a wedding right before these dates. We will be runes next yr, hopefully into Yvette to some real dunes.

Found a site at the Cowboy! Hopefully have my engine back together by the end of the week, found the culprit of my transmission woes... A nearly locked up shift cable... It did a number on the 3-4 slider and cooked the shift forks. I have another cut trans on standby I totally forgot about, just finished swapping it over to the HD output shaft, going to a slightly lower ratio HD 1st gear and billet shift forks...

and an APE billet clutch basket..

and a billet clutch hub....

Stupid shift cable.

I'm ready for some fun.

I'm ready for some fun too, ready for the roofers to get to my house as well as the siding guys. Still awaiting approval of 2 bids from insurance company as well. Couldn't wait on the glass guys so I bought new const windows and installed them myself. Cut the siding as its getting replaced. Had to trim a lot of bush's and trees and been waiting for some cooler weather to start shredding also waiting for the neighbor to run over and yank 7 trees out before I can deposit the wood chips. This heat gets to be harder to handle with each passing year. Highly doubt my rail will be done before the trip. I hope to run Scott's rail. I was informed we have an a wedding the same weekend of the trip and that my daughter and grandson would be back for it as well and staying with us for 4 or 5 days. So as long as I get Scott's rail going, then I will have to leave very early Sat morning and catch the reception. Prob looking at a 2 day dune trip so I can spend time with my grandson as well. Time will tell for sure.

As far as my rail goes......I have some plans for it as a winter project. There are a few other mods I have been wanting to make and as far as I will be stripping it to fit the hv24 trans, well, might as well get it all done at the same time. I still have the tube to build another frame but this frame has been capable so far and is plenty heavy. The new trans is 50 lbs heavier and I have been at the limits of the 2.5 air shocks ..... imo. I have 12" stroke internal bypass coil overs for the front already.   Been waiting and watching for a pair of 3.0 internal bypass coilovers for the rear. Need a min of 12" stroke and I'll reduce to 22" stroke in the rear. I bet the 3.0 c/o would do fine at 2-1 ratio.

Getr' done!! Maybe we'll both be ready with new combos come spring.  I'm still waiting on some pieces for the 427 sb2.2   This is getting ridiculous as all get out!  The 360 sb2.2 is still going though. Cross fingers on how long the spindly crank will hold up to constant on/off throttle. Maybe I'm gun shy for no real reason. Those Bryant cranks are tough SOB's.

it is sad these gov made shortages have hit all of us sooooo bad! that truly sucks it has taken so long to get your parts. i know your more then capable of building the engine hands down! i can understand the gun shy part though.  after working all day in the heat, it's just so hard to force myself back into it after i get home and cooled down. my parts for the garage ac just showed up yesterday after 4 weeks on order! that's just rediculous and am going to spend the day working on scotts rail today. i have some plans for mine but it will be a winter project for sure. been a crazy year for myself this year and the 4 rounds of hail storms has sent us in to overdrive at work. didn't even have time to for my wifes family's annual lake get together or my own families. infact i have only taken time off to take the miss's to mt rushmore for our 20th this year. throw the hail damage on top of that, hell i haven't even had a day to pull the brand new customer fixer upper toyhauler out to replace the water pump and the thermostat snap switch's on the water heater and still need to figure out how to get to the furnace to check the sail switch! i have a full set of power stabilizers to install on it yet as well. the upside is that i should be able to fire up the ac in the garage today, finally!

I'm hopeful that my truck is fixed in time for the trip. This past Wednesday night driving home from work, I believe I lost a number 4 cylinder lifter. I've got it scheduled for next Thursday first thing in the morning. They'll have a little more than a week to get it put back together.  My new boss offered his 3500 Duramax Quadcab, so I'll be there with or without my truck. I still have to sync my throttle bodies, and swap out the front sprocket and reinstall the chain.

Yep. Just too many bandaid on bandaid. I really thought I would have it done Sunday but when I found the burnt wires I knew it wouldn't be. Until sun I was so sure i would have it done i never canceled my reservation and according to their site that needs to be done 5 days prior now.. so out $150 and didn't get to make the trip. This rail needs to be driven several miles to be sure the motor runs, these bent radiators work and no electrical issues. Not sure the alt works after it burnt the wire off the backside.

There wasn't anything funny about it considering the present company. It was not appreciated by several. There is a time and a place for that and that was not it.

Saw a few pics of that from 3 different sources.

Is it true that it took place in Mixed company?

Imo......extremely poor judgment in mixed company. Would this have happen in front of sylvia, Kaye and jerry!!

Not sure who all did to be honest. Grimm said he did and brianN may have. Not sure if enemy turned his on either. Doubt Allen has a cam or Mike but bullfight might?? Budlight??

Ohhhh I turned mine on alright.. Insert wood here =>  beathorse.gif~c200
There is just something that tickles the soul when chasing down a heavy $Tatum at full boost and enjoying your progress.
Latest datalogs show a very happy 17psi peak with all the go pedal engaged, tightly controlled flat curve with the boost controler, and closed loop fueling injecting my cocktail of 100ll/e85 blend. The cold starts are effortless, and I know I have the octane and beyond to support what I am pushing to the Jeffco... which has been stellar chasing Mitch around!!! More abuse than it has ever taken lol! This tells me to leave it where it is... if I am capable of doing such a thing..

I am sure the Tatum was fun to chase. Mike and mitch put up a good race to. In the trails , they either turn twice as sharp or those two look like Popeye the sailor after the run  :m they love goat trails and  split second 110* curves in the trail  LMAO
